Calm, green and refreshing, the city's botanical garden, situated inside the immense Parque Estadual Fontes do Ipiranga (PEFI) on the south side of town, provides a beautifully appointed sanctuary for thousands of tropical plant and animal species. The garden opened in 1938 to preserve part of the remaining Atlantic coastal forest, and it functions as a research facility focusing on Brazilian flora and fauna. The garden also shelters the source of the Rio Ipiranga, which figures heavily into national patriotic lore.

This beautiful botanic garden is a well kept secret of the city. Very well maintained, marvelous landscaping and relaxing atmosphere. It is a little far from the region of Jardins, Center, Ibirapuera Park, but it is really worthy the visit.

I strongly recommend visiting this botanical gardens - they are beautiful, with very pretty things to see and enough space for picnics, great photos and fun. Comparing to other parks in the city, this one is the cleanest and most peaceful.

Although we visited on an over cast day with minimum sun, the views and experience as a whole was wonderful. The location is not very central so we arrived by taxi but the prices are cheap to enter and so worth it. During our time here we wondered through the park whilst seeing the most amazing animals including monkeys, armadillos... More

My husband is from São Paulo and had never been to the gardens, so we decided to go on our way to Santos. I haven't been "wow'ed" by many of the attractions in São Paulo, but the gardens were beautiful! I can imagine that they are even prettier during the late spring/summer when flowers are out! It cost is about... More

It's like a huge garden in the middle of the city! A beautiful place to visit when you are looking for some quietness! Loads of different kinds of trees and few different species of animals living there like armadillos and Bugio monkeys! Definitely worth a visit!

Has a nice por KG cafe and plenty of places to walk, see nature or just sit and read and enjoy the sunshine. we saw armadillos, turtles, monkeys and many birds.... More

I went on Sunday and the park was packed with people. Nice place to have refreshments as there is a nice place to have coiffée or lunch. Not a big park but well kept.

My husband and I visited the Botanical Garden and were both amazed at how peaceful and lovely it is. We almost couldn't believe we were still in Sao Paulo. The entry fee and parking nearby is so cheap and totally worth it. You can take a picnic, walk around and enjoy the flowers and trees. It really is an oasis... More
