Beautiful project, which is worth seeing. You have the option, if eligible, of half entry, and half entry presented recent blood donor proof and or, donation card.
The project has 5 species of turtles that were born in captivity, are well taken care of, and have space. In addition to the turtles there is the store where they can sedr purchased objects, wigs that also help the Tamar project.

Tamar will always be interesting. Sea turtles are majestic creatures and will always attract attention. The Ubatuba unit is more cramped, it is in a residential neighborhood and this takes away some of the comfort. The surrounding streets are very potholed and unmaintained, probably due to the high frequency of rain. Overall, it's worth the visit.

My husband and I visited Projeto Tamar during Carnival. It was amazing! As Brazilians, it is the kind of work you feel proud of.
There are many big turtles and their small friends. There is an aquarium and you can see turtles swimming under water. Very cool!

It wasn't our first (or second) time visiting the project, we've even been to other states, but this time it was different. Despite the importance of the project, and the admiration we have for its creators, collaborators and employees, yesterday watching those stressed turtles, struggling in tiny tanks, with no rotation, no environmental enrichment, no dry area... it was very sad and desperate. We understand the importance they have for environmental awareness, for children and adults, but keeping a healthy animal, which was removed from the wild after hatching the egg (they are not from rescue) in eternal captivity does not seem ecologically (humanly) correct to me. The Marine Life Museum itself, located on the beach next door, is an example of how it is possible to raise awareness without the need to keep live animals caged to satisfy human curiosity. The very activity of feeding the turtles by the children (they are lined up and throw pieces of cucumbers to the animals) can be understood beyond “environmental education” as a freak circus show. Scary, grotesque! Not to mention the price of admission, which is indecent, making it impossible for someone with a lower income to have access to the project. I think it's time to review some concepts.

Beautiful place, to get to know the turtles up close and see how much human beings need to improve on environmental issues, because they are rescued in a weakened state due to more human habits. Anyway, they are beautiful animals and so is the project. A lesson on how to treat nature well. At the exit there is a souvenir shop where you can bring a souvenir home and help with the project.

This was truly one of the worst places I have ever visited. It seemed like the idea was to show children what turtles look like, but at the expense of the turtles. I have been to other turtle sanctuaries before, and have never seen anything like this. The turtles are kept in tiny (and I mean tiny) little pools, from which they were nearly all trying to escape - swimming into the edge of the pool again and again. There was no information on why these creatures are in captivity - for example that they are hurt, or being treated, or would not survive in the wild. I personally do not like to see animals in captivity, not zoos or aquariums, but I went here thinking that it was some kind of charity, and sanctuary. It seemed more for the amusement of children. Truly awful place.

My second time there.
The turtles are so well-treated that I guess it's hard to get back to the sea for most of them.
Besides getting to know some species, you also help the project by visiting the park's facilities.

This is a great place that belongs to a project in Brazil that rescues and allows the survival of turtles on the coast. The unit in Ubatuba has 4 of the 5 kinds of turtles there are in the sea swimming in water tanks and pools.
There are students of biology in the whole park answering questions about the turtles.
Bring your family, your friends, your date or cme alone. It's a good informative and formative place.

The tanks are about twice the size of the turtles and its just not fair. The sponsor is a petrol company which probably kills oceanic life through oil spills anyway. Amazing place to go if you want to be depressed.

Em Caraguatatuba, na rodoviária Litorânea, há ônibus de linha normal para Ubatuba, hoje R$3,80. Peça ao motorista para descer na avenida que dá acesso ao Projeto Tamar. Já existe Uber no Litoral Norte!
