Cant miss the church of St Sophia, Not huge but has great character and can imagine loads that's happened there, Couple of information boards by the walls too. Doesn't cost to visit and there loads of great little shops nearby. Worth a visit

In the Old Town of Nessebar there were about 40 churches in the past. Nowadays many churches have been restored. One of them is this Old Metropolitan Church. It’s located in the centre of the town. This three-nave basilica is a part of a residental complex of Nessebar’s bishop. It was built at the end of 5th, beginning of 6th century. We visited many churches, but it was one of my favourit ones. It’s worth a visit.

but easy to imagine the majesty of the church in days gone by. Great Byzantine architecture and worth a visit.

the walls are quite impressive, despite of their age - or maybe because of that
touching the walls means to touch twelve centuries of history, but the first church was even older, from the sixth century

the place is the heart of the city, and is very loved for taking pictures, or maybe just to enjoy the place, trying to imagine the long ago people, right there, where you rest on the walls ruins

it's a must to spend a while there; if you feel emotions, it's ok, you are so lucky and sensitive, do not panic

The Church of St Sophia, a.k.a. the Old Bishopric, was built in the end of the 5th and the beginning of the 6th centuries at the center of the ancient town, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although only parts of the walls are preserved, it can be anticipated that it was a beautiful church. Because of its central location in the old town, you can't miss it and take a look when you are passing by.

We had all the time in the world to walk around and explore the ruins of the church of St Sophia, taking our pictures and enjoying the feel of the old architecture of this magical building from the 5th century. Just as we were finished and sat down for a cup of morning coffee the busses with tourists arrived, but they didn't stay long. I'm guessing their guided tour had them scheduled for another site within just a short period of time. Our luck. We could just sit there, listening to the morning sounds as the old town of Nessebar awoke.

Very busy ruins in a prime spot along the standard tourist trail through Old Nessebar. I sat at a cafe and had a coffee and watched people interact with the ruins. Very beautiful ruins and much easier to photograph later in the day when the large bus/cruise tour groups have left Nessebar.

The remains of an ancient Byzantine basilica, built in the 5th century. Now only the side walls of the basilica remain, but it is still worth visiting the place which is very interesting. It is located in the very center of Old Nessebar.
