Touching photos by young khmer photographer

I was really touched by the photos by Visal Phoeung showing the life of different Cambodian people. They are really worth the visit.

This last week I viewed the latest photographic exhibition at 'Make Maek', by local Battambang photographer, Phoeung Visal. I was extremely impressed by this exhibition, depicting local life in Battambang. There is a particularly beautiful photograph of a man breaking rocks in the rain, where you see every muscle flexed, his whole body caught mid-action, in a ditch in the... More

Maek Make as reopened after a major renovation. It is currently showing photography by local artist Pheoung Visal. The gallery is located above the Battambang Traveller Shop and entry is free. It is a good chance to see the top floor of a French Colonial shop house wiht its original features.

this space is now closed, even though the sign is still up, it is a restaurant / bar. Go across the street for art, or sit down for some good affordable food!

A small but very cool art gallery with some big ideas. The owners, Viet and Phorn, are both artists and have quite an eye for their curated pieces. The exhibitions range all over, so be sure to peek in. In the back is a store full of amazing art pieces and curios! Skip the mass produced $1 purses you find... More

Make Maek is the center of art in Battambang - which is the art capital of Cambodia. Located right in the city in an old french colonial building, this art gallery exhibits all kinds of visual and installation art from local artists and collaborations with international artists. This is one of the few art galleries in Cambodia that is owned... More

This gallery is incredible. There are only two galleries in Battambang, and this one is the only one in the whole of Cambodia to be founded, funded, owned, and managed by a local Cambodian, who by the way works a full time job with his wife and baby to keep this project going. Unlike Sammaki, the other gallery in town,... More
