Our visit was ruined because the woman in the attached photo thought it was funny to laugh and make fun of our elderly mother. This staff member is a sorry excuse of a woman and should be fired for her disrespectful behaviour. We confronted her about what she did and this coward tried to deny her actions but we saw what she did. This place could have been a great experience for us but now its just ruined. I hope she is fired and everyone finds out what kind of awful and low life kind of person she is. I dont know why she thought it was ok to laugh and snicker but i hope she realises how wrong she was for doing that.

Most people come here by car but you can do a half-day trip via bus. From Valparaiso you take the bus from the terminal, buy the ticket at counter 8. They leave every hour. I took the bus at 8:05 am which allows you to be at the museum at 10 am. Tell the driver to stop in Isla Negra. The visit only takes an hour, then catch a bus back and you still have all afternoon to spend in Valpo. The trip is totally worth it, you can feel that this was Neruda's favourite house.

Pablo Neruda's Isla Negra home is located on the coast west of Santiago and south of Valapariso. Although it may require some effort to visit, it would be well worth your time to do so. The whimsical architecture, Neruda collections, i.e. nautical artifacts, and windswept oceanside location
will brighten your day and put a smile on your face. One CON: Neruda has become a Chileno industry. As with the poet's other homes, you may have to endure a hoard of other visitors which will test your patience. If so, take a walk on the beach. Tours, taxis and car hires originate in Vina, Valpo and Santiago. For DIYers, Isla Negra can be reach by public transportation to San Antonio/El Quisco.

This House of Pablo Neruda is one of his 3 houses in Chile and probably the most beautiful. In front of the sea and with loads of memoires. The village has some Restaurants and Souvenir-Shops,but you come there to see the Museum and enjoy the beautiful Sea - which you can do best in Summer. We had Audioguides which were really good. For a guiding tour you need to book a few days in advance.
We got there by Bus with Pullman from Estacion Alameda in Santiago, in direction to El Tabo,the Bus had a stop in Isla negra. Costs around 10.000 Pesos (Ida y Vuelta). Half a day was sufficient,because we've been there in autumn.

I visited two of Neruda's houses - La Sebastiana in Valparaiso and this house in Isla Negra, and the latter is by far the best. I haven't visited the Chascona in Santiago de Chile, but I am pretty sure that the one in Isla Negra would turn out to be best, for the simple reason that this is the house where Neruda's main residence. The outside of the house are pretty unassuming, but the inside shows Neruda's polyedric personality, his tastes (at times a bit kitsch I have to say), and his interests. One can visit the cabinet where Neruda would meet politicians or diplomats (his main profession was to be a diplomat rather than being a poet), the room with multi-coloured angels, his insects collections, an ancient map of the world, his bar, and much much more. The view from his bed is simply enchanting. The tomb of Neruda and his wife is just outside the house, and require no purchase of tickets. I would advice the visit of this house both to Neruda's fans, but also to those interested in seeing what an eccentric, shrewd (Neruda was a very astute bargainer, according to his own account) , and clever man could collect over his life. All of this is set in a fantastic natural environment of the Chilean coast.

We wanted to visit Museo de Pablo Neruda. It is a truly exceptional place well worth a visit. The grown ups loved it. Our kid also loved it. We were heading towards a museum experience of a lifetime. But before we left we wanted a up of coffee, cake and perhaps some ice cream for our kid. This is where the downhill started.
The resturant was facing the ocean. We were helped to a table. Not even a third of the outside tables were occupied. There were almost noone inside. We looked through the menu and chose coffee, cakes, soda and a fruit salad (primavera) for our kid. After some minutes they got back to us and explained that it was not possble to serve anything but a full lunch at this time of day. This was at around 1400 in the afternoon. This could not have been about them not having capacity for preparing the food and drinks. All of this was part of what would be provided as a normal lunch dessert.
Since they would not give us food and we were not hungry enough for lunch we asked them again if this was how it should be. No second thoughts, just a regretful look from the waiter. I also asked in the reception if it was really so that we could not sit down and have coffee and cakes at the resturant. The friendly man confirmed the policy.
At the end of it all I kind of felt robbed for what could be the experience of a lifetime. The museum with it's friendly and lively hosts, the waiters doing their best and the friendly front desk man. None of this matters when the chef or the policy managers of the place brands the museum with their lack of flexibility.

We came by bus from Valparaiso. I don't know why other reviews don't mention this, but it is super easy to catch a bus from the main terminal, go to window 10, pay 3,000 pesos and within about an hour and a quarter- you're there. The bus leaves once per hour at 15 past, so good to watch your timing. Super easy and the bus is quite comfortable.
We had to wait for the tour when we got to Pablo Neruda's house, but it was definitely worth it. We really liked the audio tour. It gives some detail and then you can stay in each room as long as you want to look at other details. The setting is spectacular.
We ended-up eating at the cafe. It has an incredible view and the food was quite good- a little pricey, but paying a premium for the view was worth it. You could easily turn this into a full day trip with the beautiful beach right below Neruda's house.

We really enjoyed the museum, which offers a unique view into the personal life of poet Pablo Neruda. The audio guide is very helpful and allows you to explore the museum at your own pace. The narration did an excellent job of weaving in details about the house, Neruda's personal life, and his work.
Keep in mind that the narrated guide is very similar to the one for La Chascona in Santiago. I would recommend visiting one house or the other. Either one makes for a really interesting visit, but seeing both felt a little repetitive.

Definitely recommend if you are staying in Valpo. The bus leaves every hour from the bus terminal and I believe it was 3000 pesos. To return, you just take a bus from the main road in front of the delicious empanada place and you can pay on board.
I went to all three of Pablo Neruda's houses and Isla Negra was my favorite.

la entrada al museo tiene un acceso tipo rampa para personas con uso de silla de ruedas. El museo propiamente tiene pasillos estrechos y peldaños en varias de as habitaciones así como algunas en 2do piso, para personas con silla de ruedas no creo recomendable, sin embargo el patio y la tumba de Neruda si tienen acceso para minusvalidos y es libre, no se cobra para ver este lugar, sólo se cobra para visitar el interior del museo

otra cosa, Isla Negra es una locslidad muy pequeña que está al lado de El Tabo.
Casi llegsn y muy encima aparece un letrero que anuncia que llegaste a la calle de los poetas y entonces estás en isla negra, que ciertamente no es una isla.

Sinceramente, não contratei empresa para nada. Aluguei um carro pelo site, peguei no aeroporto, e desci para Valparaíso e Vina del Mar onde passei duas noites. Super tranquilo se tiver com GPS. As estradas são todas duplicadas, de ótima qualidade. Claro que, paga-se um preço, elas são privatizadas. Fui a Isla Negra e passei o dia por lá. Você economiza e faz o seu horário. Detalhe: não falo espanhol

Beto, no Chile o melhor é vc levar reais e trocar por pesos chilenos . Em Santiago tem varias casas de câmbio na rua Agustinas no centro. Sugiro que o Hotel se vc tiver pague com dólares e restaurantes pague com o cartão crédito, o q vc perde em impostos vc ganha em milhas . Para o dia a dia pontos turísticos o ideal é vc ter pesos chilenos.que como eu disse vc troca facilmente nas casas da rua Agustinas .
