Punta Choros

We enjoyed this trip.. It was filled with different things to do and had something for everyone. The beach is a bit different from others we visited.

We took a van (tour) to Punta Choros. We didn't have to deal with any logistics. There are buses which will take you here from La Serena. We arrived on a December weekday morning. The area was completely deserted other than the couple of people selling items on the pier and the several people who were going to take us... More

We had a great time at Punta Choros; some directions are below because it can be confusing. The drive after you leave Ruta 5 is a VERY bumpy dirt road, so keep that in mind when taking a car. You want to head towards the water (there is a pier on Google Maps, this is where you want to go).... More

It took me a fair amount of researching mostly Spanish websites to find out where this bus goes from so I thought I'd share the info here. It does indeed go from Panaderia los Griegos but for those of you without intimate knowledge of the whereabouts of la serena's bakeries, an address would be useful. It is on the north... More

If you love animals this is your day tour! It begins with a 90 minute car ride from La Serena. The ride is a little winding and bumpy throughout the Quebrada de Choros, though you can sight foxes, donkeys, guanacos, and horses. Once in Punta Choros you jump on a small boat with 6-10 others on a 15 minute boatride... More

White sand, blue sea and the whole universe at night. Here the biodiversity and fresh air will spell you, a boat trip to watch the penguins and whales is one of the best experiences ever, just don't forget, leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures.

The village itself is not interesting. When we went, in October, it was completely dead and everything was closed. Still, walking along the shore is nice, but can't fill your day.

I have the amazing opportunity to go to Punta de Choro and take the tour through the islands. What it was amazing about this trip was that when we were on the middle of the ocean we started to see how dolphins started to appear. We never thought that we would see so many of them and it was an... More

We did not book a tour in advance but went by a bus from la serena. It starts at nine but you should be at the bus stop at 8:30. It's 4500 pesos one way. After approximately 2 hours on the bus you arrive at punta de choros where you can book the boat tour for 10000 pesos. Unfortunately the... More

This tour was extremely disappointing. I wish I could get my money back. If you have ever seen penguins and sea lions in the wild, you will not like this tour. Occasionally people get to see more animals, but not in large quantities.
