Because my spouse is disabled, we can't walk the beach. Driving is very frustrating here because there are too many condos and other attractions for the capacity of the one narrow road along the seafront. We braved the traffic to see the sunset, but it was barely worth the trouble. The sea breeze is very cold and brisk, even on... More

I tried to drive along it, and I just could not make it. Walking along it, it is a much nicer experience.

Long avenue parallel the shore front with dedicated bike lanes. Exercise stations along the way as well as playground areas. A number of restaurants. There are a few public bathrooms but the one I tried was locked. Nice for a long bike/walk along the beach.

We cycled from La Serena to Coquimbo and there's a good cycle path that goes almost all the way along the sea front for 15km. Good route for spotting sea lions and pelicans and enjoying the sea air. You could hire surf boards too. Quiet in the cold foggy mornings but livens up in the afternoon. Good seafood empanadas en... More

Though the cold breeze unsettle you at times, but worth every moment you spent there. I think most of our times are spent here, awesome restaurants, cool beach, neat and clean walk areas, activities for kids, good horizon ....

Actually I did not like the beach area very much: many ugly concrete buildings (apartment buildings and hotels). Dirty and no shade. Not pleasant to swim. However pleasant to walk along the beach at sunset when there often is a cool breeze. The old town of La Serena for me was the best place to hang out.

The beach that runs along Avenida del Mar is a broad sandy beach with decent waves. It is lined by restaurants and bars and is popular at all times of the day, from joggers to strollers to surfers to diners. The panorama it offers is great with Coquimbo and its enormous cross to the left and amazing mountains to the... More

I remember this place from my childhood no comparison with today. The "cleaning up" of the beach and the "new" lanes for bicycles and pedestrians have added so much value. You can enjoy very nice long walks by the sea with many possibilities to enjoy a coffee, tea or whatever at the beach. Really nice! Maintenance seems to be taken... More

Nice walk early evening along the water front, sunset was really pleasant and a fresh but soft breeze. During the day you can sometimes see sea lions on the beach but best time I think is for sunset, Take you camera!

A great promenade by the beach, lots of fun vans that offer food, bars, cafes and restaurants all along the road, the beach itself is relatively clean and most people take care of it. The waters this year were quite rough and though there were lifeguards at hand they were mostly chasing people out of the water due to the... More
