There are way more beautiful lagunas in the area, but at least you can take a swim here.
The road is bumpy, I’d recommend a 4x4 (or at least a 2x4 SUV). You can go in any car though, just follow two advices: release some tyre pressure (down to 1.5 bar or 1.8 bar, don’t know what’s it in PSI), and drive at least 80km/h, even if it feels strange at first. You’ll fly over all those bumps and stones.
On the other hand you won’t miss anything spectacular if you don’t. Entrance fee is 5000 peso p.p.

Not worth the arduous long trip on gravel roads, even if nice to look at. Lucky we dd not pay the additional tour fee (had our own car)
But they should provide beach shoes for the masochist (the water is, at least in April, icy.) that want to go in the water . Trying to walk to the water barefoot on the very sharp stones is very painful around the small pond (you can dip in the bigger one only if you are with a tour - but crowded)

Lagunas Baltinache is at best average. It is at a short driving distance from San Pedro De Atacama. Swimming was not permitted on the day I visited. The surroundings are picturesque. May give it a miss, after having seen several other lagoons in the vicinity.

Our trip included Bolivia so we wanted to see something more unique in San Pedro area. My local friend recommended checking it out. We were glad we went there by joining a tour! The view was breathtaking plus we were able to jump into one of the lagoons! We were floating as if we were in the Dead Sea! Really amazing experience!

Not worth the drive! There are seven pools and you can only swim in the first one. Which was small and the water was not clear. The one that is all over Instagram, the clearest one, is no longer open to swim in. Not worth the hype and the long, bumpy road. Skip this and go to the swimming lagoon 25 mins from San Pedro.

This was one of my favourite places in the atacama desert. These salt lagoons are truly amazing and beautiful, it’s really nice to take a swim in the lagoons. It’s a bit cold but very refreshing and you will float.
There are showers so you can get all the salt off you. Be aware that the road there is quite bad.

Takes around an hour to get there from San Pedro in a long road journey mainly in a good dust road.
Take the route to calama and turn left at the bottom of a road signed posted "peine" at llano de la paciencia
At kilometer 45 of the road, turn left to find the "hidden lakes" . Six deep blue and emerald water holes in salt
The most wonderful walk around the six lakes with the possibility to get in and swim or float, in the first and the last lakes
Bring something to eat and drink and enjoy the stay in a nice picnic area !!! Wonderful experience of nature beauty and silence

Following people’s reviews of not needing a 4x4 car to drive yourself to this Laguna, we decided to take the estimated 55 mins drive from San Pedro to the Laguna in our Peugeot 301 rental car. Once we got onto the B-road we could see what everyone’s complaints were about - the road was very bumpy and gravel-heavy, and our car was barely capable of driving on it. We barely got over 20km/hour. 4x4s and SUVs were continually overtaking us.
We drove for over an hour and a half on the B-road and we weren’t even half way! We decided to turn back as the road seemed to get more bumpy the further along we got and we didn’t think the car could handle a 6 hour round trip on such a poor road.
Sadly we never got to see the Laguna.
(As a side note, we ordered the rental through Avis and actually paid for an SUV but when we arrived at Calama airport, the Avis representative said they’d ran out and also tried to charge us $350 for insurance we had already paid for - do not use Avis in Calama!).

To get there you have to drive 45kms of unpaved awful road... then you have to pay 5000 pesos to get access to some lagunas/pools.
You can soak in one of them only.
The walk along the other pools is very uncomfortable (better wear good shoes)... they should build some deck to walk there.
Finally the wind there is very strong... you can't wait to leave!

What’s the closing hour? For the entrance
Written September 20, 2019
You can only enter by 4 pm and it is about 1h drive from SPA to Baltinache. So be sure to leave SPA by around 2:30 pm to leave room for any delays since it is a gravel road for most of the way. Enjoy it!

Hola!
