The museum has plenty of archeological objects that are hard to find somewhere else and the way these objects are showcased is both amicable, as well as highly engaging to the spectator. It has stopped exhibiting the mummies, which is a gesture I find highly...More

Eventhough it is a very interesting place and a must of San Pedro de Atacama, currently the Museum is closed and will remain closed for at least two years.

This museum is currently being knocked down. It´s supposed to be re-opening again later this year somewhere else in San Pedro. We saw it two years ago, it was worth a visit.

Very small but full of interesting displays and history telling. The famous mummies are no longer displayed due to vocal protests from the natives, but still worth the visit. And it is air conditioned!!

Interesting although very brief review of archaeological history of the region, but the mummies have been moved and things did not seem too different from Peru / Bolivia. Did not address who the people were, where they went, daily lives etc. Avoid the bathrooms.

As you enter the museum, there is a 25 minute documentary that you can see on why did they remove the mummified bodies of the Atacamenan ancestors from the museum.. It is a good discussion of how the indigenous people felt... the museum then traces...More
