magical scenery

This is most definitely a must for anyone interested in desert geology and also the birds that reside at the Salar de Tara.

Most agencies offer this tour at somewhere around 50,000-60,000 CLP. The standard of the service varies greatly so choose the agency wisely! I booked with Desert Adventures and had a good experience here. The scenery and landscapes were incredible and the day was full of amazing views. The tour is approximately 08:00-16:00. A fair amount of time is spent in... More

Salar de Tara is one of those must-see places in San Pedro de Atacama. However, it is also a bit further away and only accessible by 4x4. Most operators only go there during the weekend. That said, go! It is a full day adventure with several stops along the route that are all worthwhile. However, and this is a serious... More

Fantastic rock formations spectacular scenery amazing rainbow effect and we even had a snow storm in the Atacama. An amazing day and few tourists. Quite a long journey to get there but loved it.

Salad de tara is not so special. There arent much interesting to see. Just the desert. When you go to such altitude you want to see something special. But i would not recommend it. Better go to geysers, nicer nature + beautiful lagoon.

The highest altitude we had on this trip was 4833m, every little step can be exhausting, my daughter had bad headache all day. There are many tours offered from SPdA but going there with a 4x4 (two wheel drive also is possible) was spectacular. It was only difficult to find the exit from road 27, because you just drive into... More

We went to Salar de Tara with On Safari in a 4x4 Toyota. You definitely need a 4x4 to do this trip! Most of it is off road and some of the more interesting spots can be rough to get to. There are fascinating rock formations which mark where you leave the paved road. You can also drive to the... More

Impossible not to visit. Due to the high altitude leave to go when you are already acclimatised to the high leves at least after being two days in the city.

Definitely one of the best tours in San Pedro (I couldn't choose the best one). I was there July 2016, during a rare event of snow in the Puna Atacameña. Our bus got stuck in the snow (there are no roads leading there, one simply drives through the desert), it was such an adventure! The salar has some green areas... More

It is a long rugged drive from San Pedro de Atacama, but well worth it. If you do not have a local guide, I recommend hiring one to explain the geology and the wildlife. Recommend allotting at least 2 hrs to appreciate the flamingoes and to walk the Salt flats.
