This is the second time I have visited the spectacular site. One of the petroglyphs depicts a monkey. Since there are no monkeys in the area it is clear that this was part of a trade route, in the distant past, and an area for groups to stop on their walk from the Amazon region, over the Andes and across the Atacama Desert towards the ocean. This site must not be missed.

This Inca petroglyph site sits under the most bluest of skies in the northern Atacama Desert. The sketches on 8-million-year-old volcanic rock faces were done about 10,000 years ago and are mostly of animals of the day. We saw many etchings and only 1 coloured one. This site is not well developed but there are visible trails around those massive rock formations. Be careful as the trails are rough and rocky. Supervised by a park ranger and accessible by paved and dirt roads. Be prepared to pay a nominal fee. Next, visit close by Rainbow Valley. Both sites well worth it…

We ended up going to this site last minute on our way back to Calama. It was one of my favorite sites. Not many people go so we had the site almost to ourselves. The petroglyphs are numerous and well preserved. There is some scrambling over and up rocks and you can get very close. Truly amazing.

Not quite one of the highlights of our trip nor should it be a must-visit site. That said, it fit well into our schedule and there are no regrets spending 1-2 hours here. It's different than just looking at sites around Acatama and there's enough history and petroglyphs to make it worthwhile. The drive from the main highway is also quite scenic. If you can fit the place into your schedule, it's certainly worth visiting.

It is interesting, but if you don't have too much time, there are better options. It is close to Rio Grande ( a small village) and Valle del Arco Iris.

We visited in February just after the rain - nearly couldn't get there! Great guide and lots of time to look at really fascinating petroglyphs. Amazing they are so well preserved. A great drive to get there. definitely

We did a day-trip here from our resort in San Pedro and found the Petroglyphs to be fascinating. The pre-Spanish tribes had created these as markers to travelers so that they could be advised (or warned) of potential local food (or danger).
The images are fading and some of them have had segments broken off due to weathering (they are more than 600 years old) ... so its worthwhile visiting this as it may not be around for too much longer.

If you are interested in Geology or just into stunning landscape, this tour is a must. We did this tour in the afternoon and were stunned at the beautiful rock colours as the sun set. The tour finished off with a sunset picnic which was excellent. Take a warm coat as the temperature drops late afternoon to very cold.

This location had some decent and interesting petroglyphs but we had a horrible tour guide. We booked this tour on Viator and they put us with Turis Tours. This tour company is very big and it is not very personable. Our experience with them was not that positive. The site itself was interesting and we probably would have had a better time if we had a more interactive tour guide. It is a cool site and if you go there on your own you probably only need a good hour there. Just note that there is an entrance fee and we were not told that before hand.

We stopped here along our way to the Rainbow Valley. Very nicely laid out site with beautiful ancient sketches in the rocks. Worth the ride.
