Like I would recommend to anyone visiting the Giant Buddha: go on a weekday. The stairs are steep, but the views are amazing. It's worth savouring. We went on a Monday, so we had the chance to stop often and enjoy the view from the staircase.

Steep and narrow going down but good hand rails, not so steep going back up with some nice views and forest.

This is the only way to get to the foot of the Giant Buddha. However, on the way you will pass many nice statues. The way is safe, but can be a little slippery when it is wet. You would have to be doing something REALLY stupid to fall of the mountain, so don't worry. That said, if you have... More

To reach the bottom of the leshan giant buddha you will be traversing this staircase built into the cliffside to get to the bottom. The staircase is really solid i know that because I've been there when everybody was packed in like sardines and i didn't feel any movement on the stairs.

The cliff road is the only way down to the bottom of the Grand Buddha, but it is both fun and a little scary. It is very safe, as it has a strong, high guardrail, but you get different views of the Buddha as you descend. Great fun, great views.
