Huanglong was one of the reasons I travelled to the area and I was really excited to visit. As I stayed near the Jiuzhaigou park the drive to huanglong was about 2.5hrs each way.
I arrived around 11am and to my surprise it was very......More
We were to catch evening flight from Jiuzhaigou. We started from Jiuzhaigou in the morning and reached Huanglong by 10am. We visited in April end and it was still cold, very cold. The way up the mountain is very scenic and there was snow everywhere....More
I went there a couple of weeks ago. There are only three ponds with water, still beautiful colors!! Some europeans were complaining of being similar to any mountain and not worth it, come one, those people should read the signs next to the ticket counter...More
Visited Huanglonggou on April 5, 2016. Took the cable car up and then walked down to see all the attractions there. Still in Winter season there (felt very cold when compared with Jiuzhaigou) and water not plenty, some pools were dry. The place is around...More
If you arrive by plane before noon you may consider going there before going to jiuzhaigou (JZG) at night. But not worth a day trip from JZG valley.
Quite long queue by the road to buy ticket.

Many people talk about Huanglong, some said very good while some said not worth it. I visited many places in the world including China. To be fair, if you go there in winter (Nov to April), it would be rather cold to take such a...More
Ok, it is not a 1 star attraction since it is beautiful and if you put it somewhere else it will be a 4/5 stars attraction.
I gave 1 star because so many people give it a good review and I want to tell you...More
Personally I did not find the ponds nor flow of water impressive. For the entrance and cable car amount paid, and the effort of of the walk at high altitude (3,200m-almost 3,600m), the scenery and beauty of Huanglong does not reward.
We were there by...More

Hi Yuval, personally I won't bring 2-3 year old kids. They cannot express themselves clearly if something is bothering them. Altitude sickness can effect anyone regardless what your background is and it is very dangerous for kids and older people. If you fly in, the airport is already around 3,500 high. Then you have to drive thru a winding road and over the mountain, which is over 4,500m high before winding down to the valley of Huanglong. The viewpoints are at 3,500-4,000m high. I was there last April. Although it wasn't terribly cold, it was snowing at times. Please consult with your family phycisian. The Dr. can also prescribe a medication for you. Take care!

You can rent private cars, which can give you more leisure with your times, because if you take the public buses, you are timebound, which means you will be rushed. If you are not a hiker like me, this is not the best option.
We flew from Shanghai to Chengdu for the Panda Research Base, then hired private cars to drive from Chengdu to JiuZhaiGou for 8hrs. We left at 5AM to reach JZG around 4-5pm. If you want to do HuangLong on drive day, if you leave at 5AM you can reach HuangLong around 1PM then ride the cable car up, walk/hike 45mins to the middle of the first pool and the 2nd pool, then walk/hike down to the main entrance.
We also took a private car from JZG to HuangLong (2.5hrs drive) and stayed there the whole day so we are not in a rush getting down the mountain. I would suggest to start HuangLong in the morning, as it is very high and a lot of people get altitude sickness from lack of oxygen and get light headed. I've done this 2x, did it the afternoon, and the morning (whole day trip) and both times got sick on the drive back to JZG so I guess, I'm not up for high altitudes, but the whole day trip was a more relaxed hike down the mountain.

Unless you have known problem for altitude you should not worry. The cost of O2 can varies from RMB60 to 120. Also they have Oxigen bars at few places in Huanglong, cost of which is also not very high.
