I could not help falling in love with this place at first sight. Animals were randomly strolling on the driveways because there were actually only very few cars. Buildings and people looked real and primitive. Friends and I raced through the the old street back and forth. We also took many pictures and had lots of fun.

It won't take more than an hour, but it will be absolutely rewarding! Going to or coming from famous "Palkhor Monastery and Kumbum Stupa", do ask your guide to walk through the old traditional Tibetan quarter of Gyantze. Narrow streets, many vendors, cows, sheep, dogs ... The bustling life of Tibetans in Gyantse. You might be even invited to enter... More

Vendors bustling with bitter and prayer flags, typically for worshipping in the monastery. Hard to find anything else.

The Gyangze old town is really charming and authentic. Quite clean, too, despite cattle being kept in front of residents houses here and there

This is so lovely to see. There is some talk of modernising this area, I hope not it is wonderful to see how the Tibetans have lived for many years. Well worth visiting

Interesting to walk around traditional buildings with local life. I enjoyed Gyangze and think its worth coming.

When you walk in the direction of the monastery, go right in the direction of the hill, you walk into a medieval scenery: cows walking in the streets, people milking their cows, carpenters restoring the roofs, people drying dung against the wall, people walking in traditional dress. Walk up the hill and see the old town from the top. Don’t... More

We spent an hour walking slowly through Gyangze old Street. It was fascinating - to see the buildings, the way people live, the animals in the street (including a woman milking a cow) - it was like going back in time.

We had a great time walking in this area. We were invited by two old ladies to visit their house. Of course we did go, and were treated with a loth of yak butter tea and tsampa. Indeed very nice and hospitable people in this city.
