The fort of Veliki Tabor is one of the most important cultural and historical monuments of secular architecture in continental Croatia, with a unique monumental and authentic fortification structure. Situated at the top of Mount Hum Kosnicki, at 333 meters above sea level, it has dominated the Zagorje area for over half a millennium, during which time the architecture has blended in with nature. The impressive view from Veliki Tabor stretches over the entire Hrvatsko Zagorje area and part of Slovenia.

This zero-category monument is one of the most recognizable identities of not only Hrvatsko Zagorje but of Croatia as a whole.

If you're visiting Zagreb or northern part of Croatia in general be sure not to miss this beautiful piece of it's history. Easy to reach, set around the picturesque hills of of Zagorje it really does make an ideal place for a nice day trip. The castle itself was renovated not long ago and although there are still some parts... More

I've been in Veliki Tabor. Religious tourism. Who likes to go ahead .. Basically if you go you will surely bit hungry, thirsty, tired. And that is resolvable on the way to the Great camp. Or when you go to home, same thing. Restaurant Cucek, now has accommodation facilities if you want a few days familiar with the beautiful nature... More

This is a very beautiful castle well-worth visiting. Unfortunately, the reconstruction of some parts is still not finished, so we didn't get to see everything. We did see some truly beautiful rooms in the central tower, and some interesting pieces of furniture. The info boards provided a good balance between information on late Gothic architecture and lifestyle and the legend... More

Veliki Tabor is one of the best preserved late medival and Renaissance fortified towns in Croatia. It was built by the noble family Ratkay during the 16th century. Castle keeps the sad story of Veronika Desinicka and Fridrik. The castle chapel on the first floor contains the skull of the legendary Veronika of Desinić. The ticket price is 20 HRK.

This is one of the forgotten castles in Zagorje area. It has still been restored. The story of the castle dates back to the Middle Ages. During the tour one discovers the meager lifestyle of these times, as well as how cruelly noblemen treated those who they were not pleased with. This cruelty is the reason for the legend of... More

We were on a trip to zagorje and wanted to visit this castle. It is now renovated from the outside (our local guide told us that it was renovated for a long time) and just beautiful. Inside there is a small museum which tells the rich stories about our croatian counts (who were owners of the castle) and a local... More

Veliki Tabor is beautiful from the outside, and is gradually being renovated. If you visit here expecting to see a beautiful building, and can appreciate the history of the place, you will not be disappointed. There are a few rooms to walk through over 3 levels, and they include displays of original stonework, a scale model of what Veliki Tabor... More

The castle is beautiful from the outside but most of the interiors are still being restored so I don't think it pays giving 20 kn just to take a few photos of sparse exhibits and climb some stairs only to encounter closed doors. I don't know how long it will take them to finish the restoration, but I am sure... More

This castle has just been reopened after an extensive renovation, so the exhibits are sparse, and you can see the modern improvements, however, the torture chamber and the chair of nails and other instruments of torture were very interesting.
