We visited both the lower and upper lakes areas. I loved both, so visit both if you can. If I had to compare, I'd say the lower lakes were more overall picturesque, at least when we visited, with more of the emerald type of color and pretty reflections in the water. It also had the largest waterfall, Veliki Slap, near entrance 1. But the upper ones are definitely worth seeing as well. We started our visit at entrance 1 and the lower lakes, then took the boat across Kozjak to the upper lakes.

A memory for life in this mind blowing and unique nature wonderland. We walked over 12km with our daughter and had to catch our breath many times to just be in the moment of
This beauty. Great organised park and tram behind.

Plitvice lakes consist of two parts, the upper lakes and the lower lakes.
As we chose to follow route B for our trek, being the easiest, we were predominantly in the lower lakes.
This part consists of the Big Fall, other fabulous falls, the 4 big lakes and the lovely boat ride .
Our trek was enjoyable with numerous halts along the way seeing the turquoise blue water , swimming fishes , playful ducks and the waterfalls both small and big falling from the top, as we trudged towards the Big lake.
At the Big lake, the Kozjac lake as it is called, we stopped for washroom break followed by break for coffee and ice cream. We then took the boat across the lake to reach the far end from where we took the bus towards the exit.
The boat ride over the serene blue lake was fascinating along with the majestic views all around.
It was positively a great experience.

If you have limited time, or fear a little climbing, this route is ideal for you: you get an overall image of the park, without making to much effort.

If you do not want to climb up and down. A visit only to the lower lakes is enough to experience Plitvice. Took courage and visit the waterfall.

If you want to start from something nice and cute in the beginning - take your route through Lower Lakes (by the ferry to P2 and then walk to ST3), with each step the waterfalls will get higher and higher. And just after that aim to the Big Waterfall (Veliki Slap).

This scenery is actually at the start of the lower lakes. You go left to the higher ground to get here. You will see this again if you take the tram back and get dropped off at Gate 1.

We were on a tour in late September but still very crowded. The lakes were spectacular as was the scenery. However, like disneyland crowds walking the paths. Can't imagine what it is like in mid summer!!! Still worth it

The crystal clear water, the shades of green and blue, the abundance of fish make these lakes an odd place.

We loved both the upper and lower lakes. Do a trail like C that takes in both for the best experience. And yes the water really is this colour and that clear.

A group of us are going early June and I was wondering how many tourists are around at this time? Are there any recommendations for a day/time of the week to go where it will be the least crowded?

We are heading to the park January 6th, and I understand the Upper Lakes the boats & trains will be closed then. What can we expect on our visit to the Lower Lakes? Ice, snow? How far are the boardwalks from where we will park? Are there restrooms available?
