This charming arch leads you to winding streets full of shops, restaurants and bars. The history of this little town comes out at every corner.

The Balbi Arch with its image of the winged lion dates from the 17th century and reminds the visitor that this coast used to be part of the Venetian empire. In those days the arch marked the entry to the granary and today it's the doorway to the more narrow lanes of the old town of Rovinj. It's not a... More

Most popular city door in Rovinj. Look carefully at Venetian lion which is on top of the arch. I wonder if you will notice specialty

The visit of the small town of Rovinj must start from this Arch, just at the beginning of the visit of the town. It has also a turkish decoration on the back side of the arch.

Literally a gate to the Old Town in Rovinj, nice old piece of architecture, you cannot miss it while walking around Rovinj.

Nice Arch in old town, you pass to join a nice square; Perhaps it's a Turkish Arch; it's a must to visit the old part of Main Square.

Rovinj was merely a night stop for us. We only started sightseeing on 12 Nov morning as it was raining heavily on 11 Nov when we arrived and we just hibernated in our hotel. We chanced upon Balbi Arch as it was sandwiched between our hotel (Hotel Adriatic) and another building that was under renovation. It was somewhere there that... More

This was once the main gateway to the old town. There is a Venetian head at the top of the arch on one side and a Turkish head on the other. You don't really need to make an effort to visit this place. You'll normally walk past it in the main square. Do read the history of this gate before... More

This arch is at the bottom of a long narrow street, and they were doing some work on it, so i nearly missed it. It is decorated differently on each side and again is a must do if you are in Rivinj.

the gate was the main entrance to the old town of Rovinj and in front of it was a bridge crossing to the mainland until the 18th century when the waterway was filled in and became a street.
