The Saturday must be the biggest market in South America. Whilst the market is open everyday on Saturday it explodes and fills the nearby streets as well. a must see for anyone in Ecuador

"La plaza de ponchos" is a very touristic commercial place that you can find in Otavalo. you can find coats of all kinds that are made of wool, in addition to handicrafts with prehistoric designs. It is a place full of culture with a variety of colors and thus take home a wonderful memory. Its people from Otavaleña are very friendly and charismatic.

A place highly recognized worldwide, for its culture, the representation of each handicraft is an example of the diversity that exists in Otavalo, the indigenous people are an icon of the city for leaving the city to represent Otavalo everywhere, the square de los ponchos is a very nice tourist attraction to visit with the whole family and bring a memory of this place to the family.

This very large open air market has plenty of local crafted to choose from plus the usual souvenirs. Quality varies as do prices from stall to stall. Be prepared to bargain as it is expected of you. Initial asking price should never be paid.

This is a definite must see in Otavalo. The prices for everything are certainly better than in Quito or Mitad del Mundo, but the originality generally leaves a lot to be desired and you definitely have to be on the lookout for cheap fakes. Saturdays are without a doubt the best day to go shopping as the market expands from the usual market and into all of the surrounding streets.

A huge town square filled with stalls and a myriad of Ecuadorean arts and crafts adits you. Open 9 to 6. Went on a Wednesday afternoon. You can bargain...stayed just one hour . Long enough to find beautiful things, not too long to get overwhelmed.

Great place to go shopping. They have everything even though you don't come on Saturday for the big market. Just make sure you get the right price - the first price they offer is always too expensive ;-)

We couldn't fit a Saturday market visit into our agenda, so \wednesday was second best. Mainly textile vendors wth stalls featuring Alpaca blankets, shawls, hats, and the like. Great atmosphere with indigenous vendors in their native outfits vying for your attention.

I went there for masks -- which aren't a huge thing in Ecuador -- and found 5 vendors. There were even ponchos available.
