Best stopping point for the desert

This is the best starting point for the desert - Would recommend going with a guide. There is only one cashpoint though - and it was broken when we were there !!!

We spent last weekend at Badry’s Sahara Camp and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Although perhaps not for those who need five star luxury, for anyone who likes a simple, rustic setting, great views and friendly staff won’t be disappointed. Badry, his son Islam and the rest of the staff made us feel genuinely at home. The food was hearty Egyptian fare,... More

Bahareya is an excellent oasis; centres around the main town of Bawiti it is equally good as a destination in its own right or as a staging post for desert trips. I always stay at Badri's place, Desert Safari Home, and have used it as a base for everything from quiet cycling tours round the oasis to full-scale desert trips... More

Some natural drops of dates from the overhead into the stream of running hot spring water you can pick and eat... More

350 km south west of Cairo in a elongated valley you come from miles of desert to the oasis where the air is clean and fresh due to the gardens with palm trees. Lots of friendly people and affordable places to stay. The oasis has plenty of archaeological sites worth visiting, and to the west is the famous White Desert... More

The desert is beautiful, prepare to camp out under the stars and to respect the ecology of the desert. The white desert followed by Bawiti gardens, hot springs and relaxation are perfect all the way until May when it warms up. Bring a book and unplug.
