The church was built by Archbishop Leon between 1036 and 1056, in the Macedonian style of that time. It was built on top of the foundation of an earlier Christian basilica. The building is interesting, but the real draw are the frescoes inside. What you should know: * The frescoes represent some of the earliest depictions of some old and... More

This is a small church with a scale model made of the same building materials. We did not have a chance to enter it as we were schedule to walk up the hill ... Having entered the open area outside the church, I was surprised to find a scale model of this church in a glass showcase right outside the... More

Arguable one of the most impressive and beautiful medieval churches across the Balkans. Ticket prices are cheap, though no photography is allowed however many were able to take a few snapshots. The frescoes are immensely impressive dating to the 15th Century and highlight Macedonia's integral position in Christianity during the Byzantine era. It was also even used as a mosque... More

This church is one of the most beautiful churches in Ohrid, it's easy to locate and the ticket price is very affordable. When you come in you will be amazed. The fresco work and murals are mind-blowing. Must visit.

You can look inside the church from the window, but if you want a closer look, you need to pay to enter. The frescoes are nice, but faded. About 10 minutes is all you need for a visit.

Another of the many churches in Ohrid and one of the most attractive. They don't like foreigners here and have a sign up saying they have to pay double to get in (see picture below).

Whilst the entry fee may seem stiff, once inside a whole new world opens u. The frescos and murals are our of this world. You need at least 2 hours to do justice to this amazing jewel.

Saint Sophia is in the old part of Ohrid not far from the commercial city, beautifully kept lawns with tortoises, the church itself is well worth the entrance fee (100 den ) wonderful frescos everywhere.
