The road is a bit trying, if you're driving it. But this spot is truly spectacular! We got there on Friday afternoon, hiked up to the mirador, then down to the pools to cool off. Not many people and beautiful scenery. Ended up camping in...More

Getting to Lanquin is a rough and long bus ride, but Semuc Champai is worth the effort. Give yourself at least a couple days to relax and a couple days (or more) to explore the park. I recommend signing up for the day long tour...More

Go to the viewpoint - the tough climb is worth it! Take good shoes! Go to the pools, and go tubing with a beer!

This place is simply beautiful. The pools are magnificent to look at. While you're there make sure you climb the path to the top to gaze down on the pools from above. It is a challenging trek, about 30 minutes up hill, but so worth...More

What a way to spend a hot day!! We lucked out the day we went it was blue skies and hot. Beautiful place only ruined by the constant sales pitches from children. But that's how they support their families. The park police were extremely unfriendly....More

About 10 hours.
My boyfriend and I are heading to Gautemala in June this year and are contemplating whether to hire a car and drive from Antigua to Semuc Champey to Tikal over a week, or whether we should take a bus or shuttle. Any suggestions regarding whether this drive is doable? We have travelled a lot and feel pretty confident driving most roads in most countries and we prefer self-travel, however I have read mixed reviews about driving in Guatemala. Any thoughts would be appreciated!!
