The tomb is at 20 ft height. I heard the last time they opened it to show for public was in 2015 and they do it every 10 years till date. I also heard that they won't be continuing it now. There is a huge crowd for people when they open it.

The tomb is well worth a visit and is much improved by using one of the local guides who stand outside. They're licensed and knowledgeable and the one I used really brought some context and color to a place I had next to no information about. If I remember, it cost me just over $1 US: money well spent. I... More

I suggest you visit here on a normal day as the crowds get overwhelming. The tomb is clad in silver and there are "windows" through which you can glimpse a body shape which the worshippers believe to be the remains of St Francis Xavier. Quite an atmosphere of devotion!

Stupendous Architecture. High Ceilings. Do not miss the Archive on the left side of the Basilica. You would be Lucky if you could see, the short movie, that is shown at certain intervals. We could Not make it. The Un Embalmed Body, of St Francis Xavier, is to the left side of the Basilica. Only the Head and Feet, are... More

Its a very beautifully designed church where the remains of Saint Francis Xaviers is restored as mummy. It is stored in a carefully decorated casket which gives it a divine aura.

The tomb is housed in the BOM Jesus Church which has an age old architecture, but during the exposition usually which takes place every 4 years, the body of St.Francis is brought down for devotees to have a closer glance and pray around the new chuch on the other side of BOM Jesus Church.

A great place to visit, where you would find a beautifully designed ancient church where the holy mortal remains of Saint Francis Xaviers is restored as mummy in a decorated casket inside the church. Must not be missed !
