Went to this place through Ferry, one hour journey along the Arabian sea then around 10 mins 'trekking' to reach the caves. Saw the idols of Lord Shiva & family. Very beautifully crafted at one rock, incredibly amazing!!! Don't forget to see garden & two Canons placed at height around 10 mins walking distance. Also please don't pollute the space... More

It's an interesting place to visit. You want to catch the first ferry (at 9am) to be the first on the island (meaning you get less people around and more space for exploring). We made a quick trip and caught the first ferry that went back to the city. To see the caves you must pay 500 rupees (50 for... More

We had a personal guided tour of the caves it was truly amazing. there are quite a lot of quite steep steps but the climb is well worth it. If your are not so nimble on your feet you can take one of the sedan chairs and get carried up, my wife did it, it was quite an experience. don't... More

These caves are located on Elephanta island which is off the coast of Mumbai. You have to take a ferry from Gateway of India that takes about an hour to reach the island. From there, you can take a toy train with 5 mins ride or even walk that distance. Then you have to climb stairs for about 10 mins... More

It’s a long way from the mainland – about an hour in ferry and then it’s a very long walk up to the caves, and fighting the gauntlet of store owners and pushy merchants on the long climb is not very pleasant. If you have an interest in ancient Hindu rock sculptures, then this is the place for you but... More

We took time out from our visit to Mumbai to visit Elephanta Island and see the caves. Access is by boat from the Gateway of India. It doesn’t seem far on the map but the boat takes an hour to get there chugging across the harbour. Local birds seem to enjoy hitching a ride of the various boats swooping down... More

This excursion to Elephanta Island is worth it. You take the open ferry in Mumbai from the dock at "The Gateway to India". The relaxing ride is just over an hour. The Island is interesting as very few people live there permanently, and they have no electricity. The caves are the big attraction for the Island. The caves house rock... More

Make sure you start with an early ferry so that you can escape the heat of the sun. Feeding seagulls on the way is truly one of a kind experience.
