Naroshankara was the name of a brave soldier in the army of Peshwa who fought courageously against Portuguese successfully. He was honoured with a gallantry award. The temple in the name of Naroshankara is found in Panchavati region, on the bank of river Godavari in Nasik. It is popularly known as Naroshankara Temple of Rameshwar. Since he constructed it, it is identified as Naroshankara temple. This was built up during 1747; using the typical MAYA technique of architectural style. This type was the most beautiful temple-architecture of the 18th century. It is bounded within a fortification that has a fixed "Bell house" in front portion. This is popularly described as "Naroshankara Bell". This Bell (Ghanta) on the top of the gate of the temple is well known that can be seen from most of area on the bank of river Godavari closed to Dahipool Bridge in Panchavati zone.
This award was conferred on him for the triumph over Portuguese. It was given as a reward or as a medal for heroism exposed by Naroshankara Rajebahaddur who was the then gallant soldier of Bajirao Peshwa. This bronze bell is of 6’ diameter. The people at a distance hear the bell jingle up to 8-10 kms.
As you enter the shrine you will see the Bull-god (Nandi) seated in front of the main deity. Go round the temple in clockwise direction (pradakshina) and see the several images and admire the art exposed in those figures. Ongoing round the shrine we can see an attractive peacock holding droplet of garlands. In all the four directions there are idols of saints but some of them are disfigured. You will be curious to see an assembly of animals like tigers, elephants, monkeys and others. We have to understand the inner meaning of depiction of these rare sequences. It shows that the Hinduism and its ethnicity is not limited to human beings alone but also includes trees, birds, animals and all other things in the sacred womb of mother nature.
Unfortunately there are some green plants peeping through the gap of the stone structure at gopuram and other portions of the outer temple, but not removed by the authorities. They are dangerous if allowed to grow bigger in size as that would endanger the temple structure itself.
When you enter the hall lift your head and see the architectural work. It looks as if Nandi is resting his mouth on the small stone-rod and his tuned little tail is strange and attractive. You will enjoy the beautiful outer view of the temple.
This Naroshankara Temple of Rameshwar is closely situated at about 8 km from Central Bus Stand on the outskirts of Nasik. The five grand old Banyan trees (Panchavati), Kalaram temple, Seetha Gumpha, Thapovan (the place where Laxman severed the nose of Surpanakha) and the other attractive nature’s loveliness around are added attraction to this tourist important place in Nasik.
The nearest Airports to Nasik are at Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Aurangabad. There are public and private buses, cars and taxis from all the neighbouring cities to reach this beautiful spot. Nasik can be reached using services of frequent train services from Aurangabad and Mumbai and also other cities of Maharashtra. Package tours to these Temples are also arranged by tourist operators.
In Nasik you will get traditional Maharashtrian cuisine like Rajasthan, Gujarat and South Indian food. There are a range of restaurants with cuisines of Punjabi, Chinese and European taste. There are plenty of Lodges and Restaurants to provide food and accommodation to the visitors.

The younger brother of First Bajirao - Shri Chimaji Appa got victory over British base at Vasai (India) and brought this big gong (bell) form there to Nashik and mounted in a new temple of Shiva. It is not only a holy place and matter of pride for every Indian - unfortunately visitors are not given any information about such historic place. I visit this temple frequently and take every guest there.

Though having historical value, no one seems to have given it a though to maintain this as a heritage site. Totally ignored from the tourist map, now seems to have become bastion for vagabonds

Though now mostly in ruins due to poor upkeep, this temple has a very history related to the huge bell at it's front. The main temple architecture is beautiful and seems ancient.

This temple is located on the banks at Ramkund. This temple is about 5-7 minutes walk from kapileshwara temple,Ramkund.
The bell at this temple is very famous and is seen at the from outside also(It is exactly at the entrance). The temple is not kept well. Authorities must ensure that places which are having religious and historical importance are kept well.
An OK temple to visit while at Ramkund.
