My partner and I booked an evening cruise on the river with dinner: the Mahapatra Dinner Cruise through the agency Lotus Country Travel (but they are also called Thailand Highlight). There were only 6: the two of us and a family of 4 and already this made us think badly. Immediately at the beginning of the cruise we were told that since the river water was high, you could not pass under the bridge of the old part of the city. Too bad all the other boats went there normally! They then made us take the cruise in the new part to see for two hours only hotels and various skyscrapers. Nothing on the agenda. Dinner was supposed to be six courses but they didn't give us dessert and fruit. The ship's lights were not working and kept on and off. To waste our time, he went in circles twice. The manager just kept saying “Next time”: “next time” we will give you all the courses of the dinner, next time we will do the right round. A SHAMEFUL mockery!!! Avoid this tour operator.

We did a boat trip along the river. You can see many of the temples such as Wat Arun. Also beautiful views of the city skyline. The boat took us to this area which is full of fish and the boat owner sells you bread for 200 baht which you can feed to the fish

Weather was great in January and non stop camera actions. Food served were surprisingly good for a provided buffet. The grand finale was when cruise boat headed into Bangkok. So beautiful

I saw the Chao Phraya river many times during my sightseeing trip to Ayuthaya. I first saw the beautiful river during my visit to the Japanese village in Ayuthaya. I again saw the river when I visited the Wat Chai watthanaram temple complex. I saw some tourist boats carrying tourist from Bangkok to Ayuthaya.

The longest river in Thailand, it goes through many states & is the biggest water giver to the villagers for their day to day living. Does not look that clean but its a life saver for the villagers.
The river is used a lot for transport.

We took the river cruise in the evening, although a bit expensive but worth the price. The cruise went about 2 hours to and fro, with excellent dinner buffet. Views are much better on the evening since you don't trouble your eyes with the river condition, instead a glimmering lights from the places along the river. Each boat was wonderfully decorated with lights on the evening, make a nice view while enjoying the cruise.

We were walking a long the road to the Flower Market, we stopped to ask for direction. At first we were so thankful because the road sweeper helped us. He told us that there is a demostration going on near the flower market and it is unsafe to go there instead we should take a boat ride along Chao Phraya river. He even helped us to get Tuk Tuk at 20bht. We told him impossible it is 20bht it is always more than 100bht. He said that we need to take the one with yellow license plate.

The tuk tuk took us to a place where we were sitted down and given a price for the tour. 4000bht and we get to stop by the fish/crocodile farm etc. Of course in Thailand everything is negotiable, but the guy didnt agree with our price so we decided not to do it. The tuk tuk driver came after us and asked how much are we willing to pay. After much negotiation he said okay and we went back to the guy who said no to our price.

They took us up the river where we passed by Asiatique to an area, not sure what is it called. We had to wait quite a bit for the wall to be raised so we could cross over. It was disgusting there were rubbish everywhere. That part of river is really aweful, the river is a dumping ground. They took us around we saw wooden houses, temples, more rubbish (we just pass by never did any stop at any farm or even seen any). It's not bad seeing how Thai people in that area lived but it wouldn't be something that i would actually go for given the choice. They should really clean the river and stop treating it like a garbage dump.

We first thought that the floor sweeper was being kind but in fact fin my opinion i think they are connected. We were so happy that he helped us from danger from the demonstration but only to be lured to the tour. After the tour they dropped us at the flower market (nothing was happening there =.=) also the flower market is reallllly dirty, i'm sorry but i almost threw up when i saw the floor.

I did the dinner cruise along Chao Phraya river last year, that was worth it.

We boarded our longtail boat to Ayutthaya and sailed along the Chao Praya River. Our adventure began and what a stunning adventure. From the hustle and bustle of Bangkok to the tranquility of Ayutthaya.

The houses were amazing and alter in size and condition. What I found amazing was of the uses the river has for locals. We saw children playing in and near the river bank.
I saw a lady washing her hair in the water. Lots of fishing men trying to get their daily catch.
I even saw people doing their washing in the water. It seems to be the source of life.
The boat trip was just over an hour but in that time we saw so much.
I know most people go to Ayutthaya by motor vehicle but give a the river ago.
You pass temples and Palaces.
We thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommended.

This was the highlight of my time in this city. The temples were interesting and it was a great way to observe the Thai way of life along the river banks. As the sun sets it becomes more spectacular, as do the temples. We finished at the night markets on the river where the food was spectacular and a wonderful lively atmosphere. Unfortunately as with most trips we went on in Thailand the boat driver gives no information on the places you are visiting so take a map and a book if you want to know more.

It is the river that surrounds the 14 ruins of Ayutthaya Historic Park.
You can see and understand better all ruins/temples by a boat trip in the park.
Worth it.
