A beautiful mosque situated close to the Ark of Bukhara. It has a nice pool located outside which is a good place for peace and reflection, no pun intended, it is just serene. The main attraction is the wonderful wooden columns on the outside of the mosque close to the entrance. The mosque is a reasonable size inside and nicely... More

We visited on a Friday, so there wasn't a lot of time to explore before prayers, but we did get a good chance to look at the beautiful wooden pillars outside of the mosque. The inside was smaller than expected, but beautiful as well. The pond across from the mosque made for a peaceful spot and landscape for good pictures.... More

Beautiful Mosque with 20 Wooden Columns situated directly opposite the main entrance to the Ark Fortress / Citadel. Immediately in front of the mosque is a small pool in which the Mosque is beautifully reflected. A must see whilst visiting the Ark / Citadel.

What a beautiful, serene spot. The woodwork and decorations of the building are a must-see. Take lots of pictures.

This is a beautiful mosque both on the exterior and interior. There are twenty columns at the entrance, and they are reflected in the nearby pond of water. So it appears as forty columns. The interior is also quite special.

On arriving at the mosque you will find that the entrance has 20 wooden pillars, but if you go to the far end of the pond in front of the mosque, you will see the reflection of the pillars on the water. Hence the Mosque of 40 Pillars. The pillars themselves are ornately designed and beautiful. Inside is also a... More

This mosque is known as the 40 columns. There are 20 ancient columns fronting the mosque, but they are all reflected in the now stagnant cistern that fronts the building. It is right beside the fortress, so don't miss it.

This is an impressive example of early Islamic architecture before construction in stone and tile-work became prevalent everywhere. The slender carved columns (made from elm trees) with their carved tops look like desert palms, supporting the façade of the mosque, which has beautifully painted and coloured ceilings. All this is beautifully reflected in the hausz (pool or reservoir) in front,... More

This mosque is different, it is very open to the landscape and gets its cosy atmosphere through the pillars, the beautifully painted wall and ceiling, the trees.
