We visited Lake Nakuru National Park in Kenya. It is a beautiful place. Most of the flamingos had migrated when we were there, but all along the lake there was plenty of wildlife. In the park we saw cape buffalo, gazelles, elands, warthogs, zebras, and baboons. The highlight was seeing a large male lion stalking some antelope. The view of... More

Arrived for an afternoon safari, waterbuck, pelican, large herds of buffalo, a group of 4 white rhino, lions, wildebeest, giraffe, elephant and other mammals, lots of different birds but very few flamingos on the lake, it could be the wrong time of the year. Also saw black rhino. Only stayed one night, but there is so much to see, it... More

Though not a Flamingo haven as we had supposed, Lake Nakuru National Park is still spectacular. As our jeep jammed and jumbled about on the dusty roads we spotted and spied animals right and left. Binoculars brought those in 'hind-sight' into 'near-sight' while some species just remained right next to the road. To our silent squeals of delight. Water buffalo... More

We spent a day at Lake Nakuru National Park in January 2017. Even though the water has risen and the alkalinity has declined, there were flamingos in evidence--over 100 in one place, and about 50 in another. We saw white and black rhinos, herds of buffalo, and at least a dozen Rothschild giraffes. There were lots of interesting birds. We... More

AMAZING EXPERIENCE. When we first viewed the lake from the hill I thought the water was pink. Millions of flamingos were grazing (is that the right word?) in the water. I've seen flamingo''s in other parts of the world but never like this! My local friend drove us in his car throughout the park and we saw tons of zebras,... More

Lake Nakuru was famous for the millions of pink flamingos that gathered there in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's; unfortunately by 2017 they are well gone. Just one ecological disaster from around the world. The lake lives on its past and is a sad place to visit today.

Well worth a visit. We saw a huge range of animals including lions. Beautiful spot but take a ranger with you if visiting for the first time. We spent a few hours there but the reserve is pretty big and so it is best to get there early in the morning and spend the whole day there.

The wildlife experience was enjoyable. Even though there were no flamingos because of recent flooding, there are still lots of birds, buffaloes, rhinos and other animals. Brief sighting of a honey badger in the early morning. Our visit coincided with a national holiday, and festival of sorts was happening right outside the park gate with huge crowds blocking the entry... More

The image portrayed by the tourism office of Lake Nakuru is of pink flocks of thousands of flamingos all along the shore! Sadly no more!! The lake level has risen in recent years destroying the flamingo habitat of shallow waters forcing their relocation to nearby lakes. There are still hundreds of the pink beauties to be seen on the shore... More
