Lots of Buddhas to see and lots of steps to climb. Interesting to see the two rivers meet as the Mekong is a sandy colour and the nam ou river is darker.

A long but serene boat ride brings you to the confluence of two rivers, three amazing mountains and these wonderful caves. The lower cave is a moderate climb, while the upper cave is a more strenuous set of steps. Each afford a unique array of...More

Everytime I am in the area I will hire a boat and enjoy the relaxing trip up the Mekong to visit Pak Ou, it's always a spiritual experience. A stop in Xang Hai or the village across from the caves can be interesting, especially if...More

Two small caves also used as shrines above Mekong river , accessible only by boat . Quite small caves with Buddha statues inside , quiet neglected, wouldn’t go there specially. Admission 6 USDLRS for boat and entrance.

Chartered our own boat to Pak Ou from LP town. Managed to avoid the touristy crowd. But the caves didn't wow us.

This takes about 2 hours to get to by boat from Luang Prabang. The boat trip along the Mekong is excellent. The views are outstanding & it is very peaceful on the river & probably a bit cooler than what it is in town. It...More

My wife and I visited these caves during our nine-day trip to Luang Prabang in February 2017; there is an entrance charge of 20,000 KIP. The site does include two caverns that are replete with many hundreds of different statues of the Lord Buddha. The...More
