I didn't have the best conditions when I walked up the volcano as it was very cloudy but I still enjoyed the hike through the jungle. Wear good shoes because the hike down can be very slippery.

I had read many reviews etc. about hiking Concepcion. It's the harder of the two volcanos, and very challenging. I'll be fine, is what I thought. This was perhaps one of the most challenging things I've ever done, and definitely the craziest thing I have...More

It ttok us all in all 10hours to get up and down the concepcion. The way up was much easier than the way down for me due to my knees and the fact that it is very steep. The view was amazing and the experience...More

Concepción Volcano, one of the hardest volcano treks in Nicaragua. It's my first volcano trek/hike/climb in life. 5,500 foot hike/climb started at the early morning, 4 hours to reach the top, 6 hours to descent, total of 10 hours hiking/climbing. I do recommend to take...More

It is just 40 km to cycle around Volcan Concepcion from Moyogalpa. If you start early you will be able to avoid too much sun. I would recommend to go North from Moyogalpa first as this part of the road is more tiring. Part of...More

We used a guide provided by Hefziba hotel in Moyogalpa. Lester has good English and is a wonderfully patient Spanish teacher as well. $20/pp First off, we appreciated they take you up on a dirt bike as far as possible. It’s a sandy, scary ride,...More

Can you hike this in normal sneakers or should you invest in proper hiking shoes?

It depends! If you are planning on going right to the top, you need proper hiking shoes. The section above the look-out-point is steep, rocky and covered in little ball-like bits of lava that make it hard work. If you only... More

Is there any way to go up the Volcano other than hiking? (e.g. riding horses or mules)?
