So sad that such a beautiful building has not been repaired since the earthquake. It is all cordoned off and abandoned. Very sad.

Once or twice a Year by the catholic ministry in this region have a festivity of the Lord of Lure or Señor de Luren, since the history tells about a "A statue of Christ made in Europe and send by a ship from there to the north of Peru was found after a strong Storm in the coast of Pisco , then after they check all the box they found a amazing and beautiful Body completely of Christ at that time they decide to send to Villa de Valverde what it was the first name of Ica city. After then were so amazing about this Statue people at that time decide to build a chapel where everypone could pray and offer their consagrations, suddelly years after turn on many candels this small chapel made it by locals materials was burned and was a strong black man coming from Chincha who took the Christ cover ir with a weet sheets could rescues everyone was really in shock and the Christ was taking a darkness skin since that time everyone calls "El cristo moreno" the Lord of Luren after creating a strong sociated who develope to build the most and beautiful Church in 1971 was inaugurated , marmol and materials from europe were in the temple considered one of the most beautiful and modern of that time.
in 1998 was the inundacion the rive get out and watering all the city the church wasn't too affect but was a strong earthquake where in the middle of 2000 where destroyed the amazing church, now a days still have not decide where and how to build because the money was collected from everyone and millions of soles Peruviian money but still people are pray to see again the Iglesia del Señor de Luren - Its amazing seen and be a expected of a procession of The lord of Luren because still people look at him with many feelings, like there were talking to him or asking to a favor or just simple to see how beautiful is. I recommended in octubre or in april for Easter are the bigger time where you can also could try to tastes delicious plates from the locals and also shoop souvenirs and amazing tejas - Please be aware about your wallet and personal things.

A structure which was once a major sanctuary. Currently awaiting refurbishment and reconstruction. Earthquake damage is very visible.

The Santuario del Senor de Luren has a nice facade, but the rest is ruined after the earthquake in 2007. If you are into architecture or religious I guess its worth a visit, if not there is not that much to see.
