20 minutes ride from Anuradhapura. Go along the road to Mirisawetiya.
Next to the main road, ample parking, free entrance, could spend 1hour here. Eye opening, very interesting place to visit.

Washrooms are not clean but the temple is.

From here you could reach to Tanthirimale in another 20 minutes ride.

Nellikulama is an ancient temple of Sri Lanka, but has seen many new developments in the recent past and hence visited by many tourists from Sri Lanka who generally makes a point to travel to the rock temple of Thanthirimale. The massive number of Buddhist monks with their begging bowl is a heartening scenery. Can be recommended as a good place to visit if you are on a multiple day visit to the ancient city of Anuradhapura since it has so many wonderful attractions and you will need at least three to four days to cover all that and learn about an ancient civilization that existed at least 2300 years ago.

This Temple is a little way out of the central heritage area but definitely worth visiting and walking the path next to the monks. Any tuk tuk driver will take you. Very serene and beautiful, one of the highlights of our 3 weeks in Sri Lanka.

The long row of statues representing the Buddha and 500 arahath monks looks impressive. But this is not a historical site.
Located near the Thanthirimale - Anuradhapura Road. You can visit this site on the way back to Anuradhapura, after visiting Thanthirimale.
