It's recommended to visit there for relaxing, windy and comfortable. Don't bin your belongings there and keep everything with you when you are returning. Save water and environment

Anuradhapura became the capital city of Sri lanka about 350 BC or nearly 2400 years ago. Since then, it remained as the capital city of Sri Lanka for nearly 1500 years until the capital of Sri Lanka was shifted to more secure city, Pollonnaruwa. Tissa Wewa is a man made reservoir with an earth embankment which are said to be compacted by using tamed elephants with the foot being covered with leather to ensure no pain or injury. At present, Tissa Wewa gets water from the Mahaweli river, the longest in Sri Lanka having a total length of 205 miles and also having its water diverted for irrigation purposes at many locations using barrages and submerged small dams and this water could be released to Tissa Wewa when the rainfall is not sufficient to ensure adequate drinking water to the city of Anuradhapura. The main water purification plant of National Water Supply and Drainage Board gets water from this reservoir to supply uninterrupted to the city of Anuradhapura that consists of the modern "new town" by the side of the "old town". Tissa wewa is a very relaxing place with very pleasing views specially as the sun rises early morning and as the sun sets in the evening.

Fairly typical lake/tank that you find around many Sri Lankan towns but, nonetheless, a pleasant and peaceful place to be (like many bodies of water). If you’re cycling around the archaeological park this makes a nice detour, taking the quiet and peaceful dirt tracks around the shore line.

One of the prominent lakes built during Anuradhapura era of ancient times of Sri Lanka. Built by King Devanampiyatissa you'd be amazed to see the technology used at the time of BC. This being used up to date mainly for agricultural needs of the area. A popular bathing spot for locals and local tourists although you should be very careful about where you bathe.

How did they make this huge lake over 1000 years ago and still in use today to its fullest capacity.
Stay off water unless you are sure of the spot.
