Some Guides and Drivers could try to recommend you another batik shop by saying that my shop is closed today or difficult to find, etc;. Please do not believe such people. Please call me or use Google map to find my store easily. My shop is situated inside the Kandy Central Market which is opposite the Kandy Clock Tower and it is not difficult to find as it is a well known local market in Kandy. The shop is open from 9.00am to 6.00pm every day. In case if the shop is closed, please call me or get a free call from the shop which is next to mine as it is a pleasure to open my store for you within next 20 minutes. Jayamali Batiks Studio, one of the most famous batik studios in Kandy, was founded in 1979 by Jayakody. He discovered his talent to create unique batik wall hangings and started the business with very few means at his home as a family business. His unique style of designing modern, artistic and unusual designs to a very high quality fascinated the foreign guests who visited his studio.

This small shop in the middle of the second floor of Kandy's central market is without a doubt well worth pushing past the pushy salesmen at the other shops on the level. All the batik prints are handmade - not machine made (you can tell since the print is on both sides) and gorgeous original designs with Kandyan scenes, traditional... More

This is one of a very few shops I came across that sell unique and beautiful works of art. It is most definitely worth your time to take and look, and the family running the store as well as making the batiks are a pleasure to deal with.

After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor, my boyfriend and I went to visit Jayamali Batiks Studio this afternoon. The shop was closed but there was a sign advising to call them. I phoned CJ and he was there within half hour. CJ was an absolute pleasure to communicate with. He's very friendly, helpful and has a great sense of... More

Great designs..we picked up two pieces, although we didn't go with the definite idea of shopping. One of them a lovely large spread with most sri lankan fruits on it :) who would've thought! But the artistry is unmistakable and the larger pieces are truly unique. Just keep in mind that if the shutter is down its worth calling the... More

Really great variety of traditional and modern batiks starting from 1,500 LKR up to 75,000 LKR . Worth a look even if you cannot afford to buy. If closed call the number and they will open for you. Excellent customer service from the artist/designers son.

If you are looking for quality batiks, make sure you visit this shop/studio. The father-son duo have a brilliant collection on display. At first, we picked smaller batiks but curiosity got the better of us. We kept looking for more as we chatted with the very friendly and talented son, and he showed us a picture of one particular batik... More

We visited this shop yesterday and purchased a beautiful batik to take back home. The helpful attitude and charm exuded by the owner of this studio added an extra dimension and made our visit a highly positive experience. Although there are several shops selling batiks in kandy this shop has the best collection and the quality is several notches higher... More

Charming son running this shop. Many original designs by his father on the walls. No pressure to buy. I usually buy one souvenir from my travels and I bought a beautiful elephant batik. Thank you.

I'm currently volunteering in Sri Lanka came to visit Kandy for the weekend in hope to pick up some good items and bought an incredibly beautiful batik from this shop! The man in this shop spent a long time explaining the piece and others in the shop and telling me the process and how long each piece takes to create.... More

This review is a few months late but I had to review this place. The owner is so kind and knowledgeable. He took the time to go through all the process of creating a batik. His father's work is just beautiful. We were overwhelmed with the designs and the effort it take to create just one batik. Some of their... More
