The climb was a great experience. It is rough terrain with steps built wherever possible. There were so many rocks and boulders which made this a climber's experience. There are devotees and climbers both.

Dimbulagala Aranya Senasana, which is for Buddhists as well as all other people, has many valuable features. Although climbing the top of the mountain was quite difficult, my little daughter also went to the top of the mountain. A person who goes to the top of the mountain will have the opportunity to see a very beautiful surrounding scene. This is a must-see place.

You can reach there by public transport. you can hire a Tuk Tuk at Dimbulagala junction. From the junction its nearly 2 km to the Dimbulagala temple. to reach the viewpoint and the "chaithyaya", you have to climb the rock. its a footpath with same stairs, but at the end of the path its really hard to climb, specially for children and elders. on the summit there is a "Chaithya" and a stair way to the top viewpoint.
Don't plan to visit this place after 4.30 p.m. because the authorities will not allow you to go the viewpoint. pathway runs through the forest and at night there may have wild bears.
there are some small shops at the entrance but I do not recommend the food at there. So you have to bring food. you can get water from the temple. Don't climb the rock with food in your hands. monkeys are there. they will rob you. so, put your snacks into a backpack.
viewpoint is a nice place to see and capture the area. this place is good for a 2h visit.

It is a historic Buddhist monastery , 16 Km away from Polonnaruwa town , known for it's late head prelate , Most ven . Kithalagama Seelalankara thero who was killed by LTTE terrorists. Easy access with carpeted road . A large cave with many colourful but irregularly constructed statues. Panoramic view from the Akasa chithya at the top of the mountain but you must go there in the morning or at least before 3 Pm to climb the rock ( Not allowed after 5 PM )

Historic temple, with a nice atmosphere. A must see if you visit the area. We didn't climb to the top as we did not have a lot of time to do so.
The budhu medura is quite nice and depicts examples of many situations during Buddha's life as well as some Jataka Stories.

The monastery is still untouched by human intervention and therefore the ponds and the thickets to the peak are well preserved. The view from the sky stupa is amazing and you can have 360 degree view of the region. Be calm and quite since monks are meditating in the vicinity.

Dimbulagala Raja Maha Vihara is locate 16 kilometers south east of the old city of Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka. The Dimbulagala range houses a number of caves cut into the rock with Brahmi inscriptions over their drip ledges. This forest hermitage of medieval times and holy abode since time immemorial, home to some of the most valued fragments of early frescoes was called the Gunners Quoin by the British. This Buddhist monastery which was abandoned after the times of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa was restored to the present status in the 1950s due to the efforts of Kithalagama Sri Seelalankara Thera, who was the chief incumbent of the Vihara until his death in 1995.

A monolith, away from the main city on the Batticaloa road. Monastery, Medicinal Pond, and few mobile towers on the rock.

Well it is a long walk up the mountain but it really is worth it. The view from the top is amazing and you would not regret time you spend to reach the top. Its not a long walk but for a person like me who doesn't like to walk much its something. You can also check the monastery and there are some remarkable things that you will find interesting. I couldn't find proper toilet facilities around or a restaurant nearby so prepare yourselves and go!!!
