Not too bad in the low season when we went but most places don't take credit cards and prices are highly inflated. The place is inundated with day tripping tourist buses, so in high season you can draw your own conclusions about congestion. It's certainly...More

One of the most beautiful place I have been lucky to visit in Taiwan, and probably in South east Asia. A breathtaking scenery. It is very popular among Chinese tourists, so you won't find many Westerners but it feels like finding a treasure! I have...More

It's a beautiful place to visit! The place has a great calming effect, beautiful scenery and walks. You need to be there to experience the magic of the lake.

Sun moon lake is a very small village with a wonderful lake. You can go to the ropeway and have an excellent view over the lake and the mountains. Don't miss it. You can take also a boat for rounding the lake. There are only...More

A must experience boat ride. Early morning views on a clear day were absolutely beautiful. We all really enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to others. Really pretty.

Sun Moon Lake is in a cooler area of Taiwan and pleasant to visit in the summertime. Lots of activities. We choose bicycle riding. A lot of fun, but the bike route does not go along the whole lake (which would be a lot more...More

The lake's waters are beautiful and the mountains around offer an atmosphere of quietness and harmony. There are several temples to see, for people who love walking, there are different trails that allow you to go from one to another. For people who don't like...More

Personally I didn't find sun moon lake such a draw. But since you really want to go, do hire a driver or find a tour group as advised by the other reviewers. I totally agree with them. It'd be too troublesome otherwise... More

We're traveling to Taiwan as a family, mainly staying in Taipei. However, my mom would like to stay one night at Sun Moon Lake. We have a total of three nights in Taiwan before heading to Hong Kong as part of our Asia trip. I was originally thinking of staying in Taipei for the first two nights (upon arriving from Seoul to TPE), then head over to Sun Moon Lake the last night before heading back to Taipei the next day to catch our flight from TPE to HKG. Can anyone let me know if this is advisable and/or doable? Or should we switch things up completely (e.g. Sun Moon Lake first, then Taipei)?

Hi Winston, definitely doable, however it might be very rushed. I would advise spending an entire day to get there, sightsee, and come back or spend the night. You can take the high speed rail which costs about $25-35USD... More
