Gali Paranthe Wali is a small street in the jam packed Chadni Chowk district. The street is famous for the number of restaurants specialising in Parathas, hence the name. Apparently, the likes of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit have all visited this street and gotten a paratha meal. This was the only visit to this street in all my visits to Delhi and there’s certainly a lot of servings of parathas. I suppose it’s one of those iconic street food places like Curry Mile in Manchester. Not really my type of place, but at least I’ve visited once. As an aside, there’s also a restaurant namesake .. which I read is not very good.

A Trip to #GaliParantheWali in #ChandiniChowk, #NewDelhi, #India.

Paranthe wali Gali, in Hindi language means "the bye lane of flatbread".
It is a narrow street in the Chandni Chowk area of Delhi, India, noted for its series of shops selling #Parantha, an #IndianFlatbread.
Of the 20 parantha shops in the late 1960s (all belonging to branches of the same family), three remain.
By 1911, this area, known as Chota Dariba or Dariba Kalan, got the name #ParanthewaliGali.

Parantha varities include exotic paranthas with ingredients like Kaju (Cashew nuts), Badam (Almonds),Matar (Green Peas), Mix Paranthas, Rabri, Khoya Paranthas, Gobhi Parantha, Parat parantha, etc. The parantha is always served with sweet Tamarind Chutney, Mint Chutney, Mixed Vegetable Pickle, Paneer and Potato Curry, Potato and Fenugreek curry, and a Sauteed Mash of Sweet Pumpkin.
Sweet lassi, often served in Kulhars is also a specialty of this place.

I have lived in Delhi for over fifty years, and only now got the chance to visit the iconic Paranthewali Gali, a narrow street famous foray enormous variety of stuffed Indian breads (Parantha). We went to a very tiny shop (Babu Ram Devi Dayal) that has been in service since 1889. During these Covid times, the place was empty and we found place easily. The four of us tried over 12 types of finger licking paranthas deep fried in ghee, but somehow didn't make us feel bloated. An unforgettable experience. Wow!

I had heard about a lot that this place is very crowded and unhygienic but it changed my view. Delhi is famous for street food and this gali will make you realize it is true. They make paranthas no of varities which you have to eat with chole, chatni and kaddu sabji. I normally do not like kaddu but their kadu sabji was good. Should visit chandni chowk on weekdays else you will regret coming here.

Inside one of the alleys of the Chandni Chowk market, just between the wedding garment stores, there is a small two-floor restaurant that is constantly busy with preparing stuffed paranthas.

You have to choose two types of fillings for the paranthas and you will get the two with a thali FRESH, tasty and reasonably priced. Apart from savory fillings that are common elsewhere, there are filling with fruits, nuts, and other special flavors.

Worth an experience but not a clean and hygienic place. So if you are ok to ignore the cleanliness and other aspects then go. Food is delicious and Lassi is amazing.

Please drink bottles water.

Just like there can be an infinite number of dosa varieties, in PGW you will find an infinite number of parantha varieties! Enjoy the types, varieties and the customisations that you can get here!
all the restaurants are very rustic but the taste of the paranthas is strong and I recommend trying the very unusual ones...

I am very glad I did because it was a great experience. The parathas were delicious, hot fresh, traditional flat bread, numerous stuffings to choose from.

This is a small lane right off of Chandni Chowk. If I did not use Google maps I would have missed it.

There were several places on the lane to eat, I chose the one with the longest line and it did not disappoint.
