This really is overrated. The outside of the train was filthy including the windows! How can you view the scenery if you can’t see it? We had an unfortunate 2 hr delay setting off and it was a slightly hazy day so we arrived very...More

Our connection from Kolka was late. No worries though, the Toy Train always waits. Slow but great views. Two single fares 550 rupees. Due to the delay it was dark when we arrived. Train stops at several stations for long enough for the toilet or...More

It’s a good trip but the long journey hours makes it exhausting. It starts early in the morning and reaches Shimla at around 11. Almost 5 hours journey. Indian railways did a great job by maintaining it clean as much as possible. But they can...More

We did this trip as part of a Golden Triangle holiday with Great Rail Journeys. Absolutely loved this journey despite the small narrow gauge train and the 5 and a half hour ride from Kalka to Shimla. Fantastic scenery and a great experience

To be honest this was a very long ride on uncomfortable seats. The seats are narrow upright benches that afford no comfort. Occasionally the views were magnificent but to be honest most of the views at the time of our travel were covered by foliage....More

You should book online on the Indian Railways reservation portal. Unlike other trains the reservation window for a toy train opens only a month ago. So plan it accordingly. I would suggest to travel only one way in toy train... More

Planned itinerary is always preferred. Also depending on the season you might not find a hotel vacant. So i would suggest what I do 1. make an online booking 2. don't pay in advance 3. visit the hotel 4. Try and bargain 5... More
