Best train to reach Shimla from Kalka is the Shivalik express. I suppose it is the "fastest" among all trains that go from Kalka to Shimla. It starts 5:30 in morning and reaches Shimla by 10:00 am. On the way, 1st halt was Barog station....More

The side view through out the track is very beautiful. Though this is very narrow track but it is good enough to enjoy the time.

We travelled from Simla to Solan on the toy train, which took about three hours and went through the most spectacular scenery. We then continued to Kalka by taxi.
Is it acceptable for men and women to wear shorts in Indian cities such as Delhi and Agra. I respect the advice that knees and shoulders should be covered whilst visiting places of worship but does this apply to general sightseeing?

Sorry I can't name all the stations but hopefully this will be available on the Internet? We did this journey and it's amazing. The train doesn't stop long in each station so be prepared for this. Enjoy.
