Srirangapatna, the capital during the Tipu Sultan reign, explains the true history. The rise and decline of Wodiyars and how Tipu Sultan was dethroned by the British. Must visit the place enroute to mysore. Srirangapatna is also famous for the Srirangapatna Temple.

An amazing and historic town we visited with one of Stephen Farrell "Mysore cycle tours". Worth a look round - as was the whole island, and it was best visited by bicycle. Though an auto rickshaw would be ok. An ancient temple exists near the north end of the island (?) but was closed between 1 and 4pm.

I have read and heard a lot about tippu sultan since my childhood. So this place for me was to rewind of all I had in my subconscious mind. This is the place where the actual first war with the British colony started though it was an utter failure due to as always reasons...... unity among Indians..... This was a... More

The deity is very popular and respected. We reached the temple early but reached the deity covering a long queue. The deity was seen in a sleeping posture and looked beautiful made of black kosti stone. All the devoted visitors waited patiently to reach near the deity. I enjoyed my visit and consider me contended.
