About
Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as ‘Mysuru Zoo’, is one of the oldest zoos of the country established in 1892, by His Highness, the erstwhile Ruler of Mysuru Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur. Mysuru Zoo holds an important place in Karnataka. In 1909 the Palace Zoo was named as Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens to commemorate the illustrious founder and since then it bears the nomenclature. Mysuru Zoo has gradually grown into tourist centre, imparting wildlife values. It has got 123 years of history exhibiting wild animals in the near natural enclosures. Despite majority of the zoos have been shifted from the original place to the new places, Mysuru Zoo could modernize the zoo, without shifting the zoo. The zoo is well compacted unit, with modern animal enclosures including heritage buildings attracting tourists all over the world.

- Erlic AGoa, India7 contributionsGreat place to visit with KidsGreat place to visit with kids above 5 years, they really appreciate the variety of birds, animals and reptiles. It took us 4 hours to complete the walk around the entire Zoo, which included a 30 min break at the cafeteria, just to rest. The food at the cafeteria is primarily south Indian food, which didn't intrigue us much, since we were eating the same for the last couple of days. Make sure you wear the most comfortable shoes if you plan to walk, and carry a bottle, so you can fill it up at the watering stations, which are well spaced out, carry a cap, it's not too hot though cause of all the trees. There is also a buggy option, however they cover the entire Zoo in an hour and you don't get time to spend at each exhibit, it's a quick tour. The zoo doesn't permit plastics, or outside food, they check the bags at the entrance post buying your tickets.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten April 25, 2024
- Mrs JRSMumbai, India4 contributionsDon't missMust visit places for sightseeing. They have almost all animals in their zoom. Well maintain and clean too. Very minimal entry fees. They also have electric cars as an option too. Kids will really enjoy this place. If possible try to visit in the morning or in the evening so that you don't feel hot.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten May 29, 2024
- Harsh & LeenaPune, India2,914 contributionsMysuru Zoo is one of the biggest and has wide variety of animalsFirst of all this Zoo is so huge that it would take some energy to cover it. It has all kinds of animals and thousands of birds. Kids will be mesmerizing with a huge collection of birds and their colors. It has different types of snakes also. It is a bit scary for anyone as you will see huge snakes and pythons. One needs to have 3-4 hrs to cover it and i would suggest going in the evening around 4 or by 10am. Zoo is well maintained and clean. There are huge spaces for animals also. Zoo is green and at some places you can see complete tree shades and are best for selfies and DP. They have electric car options and a cafeteria is also there. We didn’t buy anything as it was lunch time for us and we ate at a restaurant. It is chargeable and in our case we took a private car so the cab driver parked, hence i can't comment much.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten July 23, 2024

I heard before that Mysore Zoo is one of the best in India and out of curiosity decided to visit this zoo on 1st January along with my wife and her friends. It was a very pleasant experience. The zoo is sprawling and if you can not walk around, there are battery operated carts to take you around. They have a really a wide variety of animals from across the globe. Entry fee is Rs 20/ per head and the seat cost for battery cart is just Rs 80/.
The zoo is a must see place for all the travellers. You will not definitely regret for choosing to visit to Mysore Zoo.

I visited the Zoo and even on Monday morning, there was a good crowd visiting. It is a huge area, but clean and well maintained.
There were a number of animals and birds, and they had plenty of space to move around mostly in natural enclosures.
A lot of walking is involved so those who are elderly or having small children better buy tickets for the buggy service.
There is plenty of trees and shade and resting places if you are tired after walking, and drinking water and toilets are available in short intervals.
The whole atmosphere is calm and serene barring the occasional noises of the animals and birds.
Though there were lions, leopards, bears, rhinoceros etc, the crowning glory was undoubtedly the giraffes which were reserved for the last enclosure before the exit.
I can confidently say this is one of the best zoos in India.
One thing I was disappointed was that I had purchased a combo ticket for the zoo and Karanji lake, but since I forgot the name of the lake and it was also not printed on the ticket, I could not find anybody who understood my queries to help me locate the Lake.
After asking almost 6 staff and security and being made to run here and there and being pointed to places totally unconnected with the Lake, I had to admit defeat and exited the Zoo without visiting the Lake.
Apart from this minor incident caused perhaps because of the fact that I was unable to communicate properly, the whole experience of visiting the Mysore Zoo was a very good and enriching one.
Please don’t miss visiting the Zoo if you are planning to tour Mysore.

What a Zoo this turned out to be. The variety of animals that one may see here is simply unmatched in India. It is really clean, the animals are well taken care off. The enclosures are well maintained and quite large. Avoid going here on a holiday. you need time and a day to really enjoy this. there are golf carts that you can hire to go about the Zoo, but i would recommend walking. lots in informative signage's, a lot of places to get clean drinking water and baby care rooms too. We had our two year old with us, she absolutely enjoyed the outing, we will be back more than ones in the near future

We visited the zoo on Sunday morning. For my daughter , the zoo is one of the attractive place she can visit any day. The environment was quite nice and crowd was good. The animals were amazing specially birds(macaw) with different color and shades. We got a chance see the leopard , tiger, and lion. We were more than happy to watch Elephants and Giraffe.
The zoo is maintained well and good time pass for family and friends. Battery operated cars are available if you do want to walk all the way through the zoo.

The zoo has come a long way from the previous instances of dying animals and infrastructure falling apart. It’s very well maintained but some of the enclosures did seem small in relation to the animals. Overall a good experience which was inexpensive

We were on a tour to Mysore where we thought we will give this zoo a shot to see what with all the good reviews is about.
And we were amazed to see the cleanliness, Staff behavior at the topmost, Helpfulness etc.
The zoo is filled with amazing collections of animals which becomes a must visit during you visit to Mysore.
The entry tickets cost INR 100/-PP. Please do not carry plastic water bottles as they will charge you INR 10/- for taking inside the zoo. Though you can get this refund if you hold onto the bottle and sticker which they will stick at the bottle at the time of entrance.
This same can be availed while exiting the zoo. On the left hand side you will see a small standee displaying get your refund here.

It is one of the best zoo I have even visited in India. I have seen zoo in bangalore, kolkata and hyderabad. I will say, Mysore zoo is best. It is very well maintained. The zoo was fully covered with lot of trees, so you will not feel the hot weather. If you want you can take battery operated vehicle inside zoo which will cost you around 220 rs per head. better to roam by walking (approx 5km walking).

Lively place.
Crowded on weekends. Better visit on a weekday to enjoy the scenery and appreciate the zoo's inmates without the distraction cussed by the thick crowds on Saturdays and Sundays.
Battery operated buggies are available to go around but walking is far better an option if children and old people can manage.
Use the maps placed in the zoo to prioritise the areas of your interest. It isn't necessary to visit each and every animal enclosure. Take your time and pace.
To contribute to conservation efforts, you can volunteer to adopt animals through the zoo officials.
Intersting eateries in the vicinity.
