This site has become so much more of a commercial enterprise than it was 6 years ago when we first visited that we were left feeling disappointed. The various temples are as amazing base they ever were but so much more of the area was taped off to prevent visitors from getting too close to the paintings that it was not always easy to appreciate them properly. It was also saddening to see that the notices regarding respect for the temples was not observed and, in fact, the noise was often overwhelming in these great echoing halls so anyone seeking peace and tranquility in its environs would have been hard put to find a quiet spot.

This is a lovely Tibetan Monastery close to Mysuru or Coorg in Bylakuppe. There are monks praying in here so be prepared to observe in silence without disturbing them. There are lovely paintings on the walls and ceilings besides the huge statues of the Buddha and it's different avatars that are worth seeing here. The Tibetan refugees have been given this place to settle down by the Indian government ever since they fled their home country. It is a very peaceful atmosphere even with all the beating of drums and playing of traditional horns by the monks chanting their devotional hymns. A must visit place for sure if you are in the vicinity.

It is widely known as the Golden Temple, Namdroling Monastery is the largest teaching center of the school of Tibetan Buddhism known as Nyingmapa, with its elaborately decorated temple tower and ornate outer walls decorated with elaborate murals. Around 1 PM, the prayer rituals are conducted, which are quite enjoyable to observe. Cameras are permitted inside the monastery so that we can capture some memories and fun facts about the location. While it is a wonderful place to visit, there are a lot of tourists gathered here, making it a crowded place to visit. There is a parking lot close to the temple where you can park your car. If you are looking for some souvenirs in the area, there is also a marketplace nearby if you are looking for something to take home.

Absolutely serene place. Ample space to park (opposite entrance), toilets (next to parking), shopping. Space to keep chappal too.
And one you go induce, depending on the time you can see the monks fill the entire large prayer hall changing in unison. It's a sight to behold!

Inside the main temple there are three big statues of Lord Buddha, Ametiyas and another guru. The golden statues present a breathtaking view. Coupled with the colorful paintings depicting mythological narratives , the main temple has very vibrant view.

Certainly a must visit place if you vacationing in Mysore or Coorg. The peaceful feeling you get inside the Monastery is a very unique experience. Very lively place with positive vibes. You get to know a lot about Buddhist culture if you just look at the paintings all around the Monastery. A very well preserved heritage site for Buddhist.

A beautiful Buddhist Temple with exquisite décor inside the temple. The main attractions inside the temple are the statues of Lord Buddha in the centre with statues of Lord Amitayus and Lord Padmasambhava on either sides. Visitors can pray, meditate, give their offerings and rotate the main prayer drums. Every part of walls, pillars and roof inside are decorated with attractive colourful images is a visual treat.

This Monastry is located near Coorg district on Karnataka. Also known as the golden temple this place is really peaceful and beautiful. One can relax its soul while sitting there. A beautiful piece of architecture and a largest gurukul for the priests.

Visited the place enroute to Madekeri. We have to take diverted route of around 5 kms. The road stretch had some bad patches, but overall was fine they have a chargeable good parking area just opposite to the entrance. The monastery area was well maintained, the main temple area was very peaceful. They have a place where you can leave your slippers . There are shops that sell Tibetean products , snacks and food which could be explored

Ample parking space, vast shopping and cafe areas. And after crossing all those what you enter is a humangous santuary of peace. There are around 5 buildings in the campus but 2 are not open for tourists and most amazing chanting sounds and music comes out of those windows. Main building has 3 huge golden statues and you can feel peace in there. Though this place is over crowded speically over the weekend but its a good pit stop on the way to Coorg.

Any idea when they plan to open it for visitors ?
Written March 15, 2021
Is this place open for visitors as of now January 2021? If I plan to visit on the 25th, do I have to go back disappointed?

We are planning to stop and visit the monastery as a part of our longer journey. What time does the monastery open... will we be able to visit if we reach there early, say by 7 am?
Written May 24, 2018
Yes they open early. Keep at least half a day for Namdroling. Buy 3 Khatta, the buddhist scarf to offer to the 3 Buddhas. When you have this, you are permitted to go till the foot of the statues otherwise you can see it only from a barricaded distance.

Written December 28, 2017
Hi, Mayurraj,
First of all 2 days is a short trip for a place like Coorg. But anyways its left for you people to decide.
Here is some information that might help:
Places to visit in Coorg:
1. Abbi Falls (Water would be less compared to rainy season).
2. Raja Seat.
3. Omkareshwara temple.
4. Talacauvery (must visit).
5. Bhagamandala temple (on the way to Talacauvery).
Places to visit in and around Monastery:
1. Nisargadhama.
2. Dubare Elephant Camp.
Have a good look of Coorg - a paradise in Karnataka.
Have a happy and safe journey

I am planning to visit namdroling monastery for 3-4 days. Where could I stay and Do I need to take any permission to get inside the monastery? Also I wanted to do meditation there . Is it possible?
Written December 16, 2017
Normally the people who are on a one day visit to monastery stay at Coorg but if you want to do meditation there then either you will have to stay at Kushalnagar or contact the monastery itself if you want to stay inside the monastery
P.S:- If someone says that Nothingness is the pinnacle of meditation then beware as the nihilists do not know that Nothingness is also a state of mind that is being illumined by that great Awareness(Consciousness).
Have a great time!
