Had been to this historical museum in Gamdevi a few weeks ago. It is visited by locals and foreign tourists.

Established in 1955, this museum is dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. It showcases his life, work and contributions to India's freedom struggle. This historical two storeyed building served as Mahatma Gandhi's residence and focal point of the political activities between 1917 and 1934. It houses a library, picture gallery and memorabilia related to the freedom movement. The entrance fees are Rs. 20 per person and Rs. 10 per student.

This museum is open from 9.30 am to 6 pm everyday. Photography is allowed inside the museum. One can purchase souvenirs at the reception desk. However, it was more crowded with foreigners and less crowded with Indian tourists. Had roamed inside the entire museum building, admired the artifacts and got a glimpse of the life of Mahatma Gandhi.

This museum is an ideal place for families, school children as well as history lovers. It is a must visit and should not be missed.

A must! Really well laid out and easy to navigate. There are a few floors but it is small and won't take long. We were done in 45 minutes. Very interesting to learn and see.

Residence of Mahatma Gandhi, now converted into a museum. His spinning wheel is iconic and a lot of emphemra and dioramas but very low tech for such an iconic subject

It is definitely worth to have an insight into the life of Ghandi. Although the material in the interior of the museum is presented in a somewhat old fashioned way, I found it all very interesting. I can recommend a visit.

This is a very interesting museum tracing the life of Mahatma Gandhi from India, to South Africa, and back to India again. It is very well done. The dioramas are somewhat simple, but the Museum does an excellent job of condensing the high points of Gandhi’s life in a way that all ages can understand. We stayed for an hour and it was well worth the time.

This is a great little museum! Informative on the life of Gandhi.
Definitely allocate time on your trip to visit.

There are more than 50,000 books on the ground floor in the library.
The picture gallery is a great way of telling about important events in his life.

We visited the house where Gandhi stayed here at a friend's house & did a lot of his writing here. We visited the room where he stayed & there was a small museum of photographs of Ghandi in it very interesting.

My husband and I didn’t have much time to spend here but loved the history preserved here! The photos, letters and preserved rooms were wonderful.

Gandhi's life told with handmade dolls in glass boxes was an excellent idea and rendered it accessible to children too.
