What a beautiful working synagogue this is. The caretaker was incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming and allowed us to explore the facilities inside and out. Apparently there are 7 synagogues in Bombay and 4 000 jews. Attached to the synagogue is a hostel where you can get bed and breakfast

Needs more explanations of the rich history of Mumbai's Jews. Shouldn't charge to take a photo; I'd much rather be asked to make a donation. But the sweeping beauty and haunting heights of this synagogue are a must stop.

It was indeed a blessed experience to visit this synagogue which has a history of more than 150 years. Amazed at the architecture and also happy that it is well maintained even now.
We were blessed to meet a member of this synagogue who gave us a guided tour of the synagogue and also gave a brief of the history of the Bhagdadi community to which this synagogue belongs.
He also showed us around the synagogue explaining about the rituals and also about the regular prayers twice a day.

This Jewish Synagogue is a hidden gem in the By ulla area which is bustling with offices, banks, schools and street vendors..Great tower and Hebrew lettering made me look back while on a business visit to the next door Axis Bank..Badly needs renovation..Only visiting Jews are to take care as there are only a few staying behind, not re-emigrated to Holy land.

Magen David synagogue is an Orthodox Sephardi synagogue located in Byculla Mumbai. What I observed that this place need maintainance. I heard that this place is still there because of donations from abroad. This place is really calm and good.

I've been fortunate to visit the synagogue in 2013 and attend the reading of the Torah on the Sabbath. It was a great experience for me to witness how the few Indian Jews practiced their Jewish faith at this synagogue. Must visit for those who would want to know the Jewish heritage of Mumbai..

I have not actually been to the Magen David Synagogue but I HAVE been to Mumbai's Kenneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue and recognize most of the photos that were posted here as images of Kenneseth Eliyahoo. That one is very close to the Prince of Wales Museum and has been well maintained with its beautiful blue interior and balcony. I'd definitely recommend a visit to that religious venue.

This is a magnificent old synagogue that, regrettably has fallen in serious disrepair. It is hard to understand why the diaspora Jewish community, and especial the Sassoon Trust, does not find the money to repair this crumbling, priceless building. It is still worth a a visit, however, as one can appreciate the grandeur that once existed. By the way, it is the only synagogue in Muy with a daily active minyan each morning,

Got to sit thru the end of a service and was welcomed by all present. There is a warm feeling here and it is done in the Portuguese style. Could use a good paint job inside and out but we were told that the annual monsoons reek havoc on the interior and exterior. Offers a view of long standing tradition.
