Firstly, it's not a national park. It is a children's park, more like a Zoo, where there are a few animals like deer, Blackbuck, jackal etc. and reptiles like lizards, crocodiles, alligators with a few birds. Not a place where one can spend more than an hour. There is also a snake park adjacent to it which is better.
Ticket for adults is Rs. 20 and for children above 5 years upto 12 years is Rs. 15.

Zoo may be a big word, this is a very small zoo / animal park but it's laid out well so you can spend a nice afternoon by yourself or with your family and kids. very cheap entrance fee but it closes by 6pm so you are advised to reach there at least a couple of hours earlier. Located opposite to Anna University and next to IIT entrance.

Guindy National Park having two entry gates. One will take you to the snake park where you will see variety of snakes. Another entry gate is for children's park. where your kids can play plus there you can see deer, peacock, duck etc. But i have not seen elephant here as you can see on this review.

Within 2-3 hour max you can cover this place. If you have full day then goto Arignar Anna Zoological Park (vandalur Zoo) which is worth more than this sight.

GNP offers little excitement to children with its exhibits of deer, snakes, ducks and few other common wildlife. Youngsters may find it boring, but it all depends on your preferences. Not really exciting for photographers. But, this is the best you could ask for from a park situation right in the heart of the city

The guindy park as such is a nice place but
The one thing i was sad and shocked about was the snake park where small live chicks were left in cages along with snakes so that they can feed whenever hungry... it was too cruel to watch the little chicks all gathered in a corner trying to escape. I do understand the snakes need to be fed but this was just cruelty . I hope they change this arrangement.
Other than this the park has a small childrens area where kids can have fun and some animal exhibits which are fine.

We visited this park on the late afternoon of 16th April, 2014. My children enjoyed the park very much. The highlight of the park was the deer who was very friendly with human beings. The park had sufficient benches and shades for the visitors. The birds too were very attractive and beautiful.I loved the monkeys.

The name Guindy National Park....is very misleading. Once upon a time this park was a zoo, but now it is uncared and unkempt, since the zoo has moved to a beter and bigger place. There are a few enclosures and a snake park. An aquarium, nothing to boast about. Visitors will definately be disappointed. Tuesday is a weekly holiday and so are government holidays. Not worth visiting unles you have nothing else to do.

After reading the reviews, I went there with a very low expectation and hence I was not disappointed. It is a government-maintained park/zoo. So dont expect high standards of cleanliness and maintenance.
My motive was to shoot a few pictures of animals and birds, and it was ok. Almost all of them are in a cage, so it wasnt like what I assumed. Vandalur zoo would probably be better for photography.
2-3 hours is more than enough to cover this park.
Since there is place to sit, run around, play, so probably better as a large group than alone.
Young kids will be excited seeing these animals for the first one or two hours, so it is worth a try.
Purchase tickets for parking, entry, camera/videocamera. The stalls outside sell waterbottles, softdrinks, icecreams, tea, coffee, etc.
Worth a try if you have young kids at home.

The Guindy National Park is located in the heart of Chennai. it is very close to the Raj Bhavan (Governors Residence) and the IIT - Chennai. Infact it shares it borders with both. The GNP is a good place to visit with family and kids. It is especially attractive to kids due to its wide range of flora and fauna. The park has a small collection of animals as well. Crocs, birds and deer are the main attractions. The park's entrance is opposite to the Anna University Campus and is widely accessible by public transport. The parking space inside the park (outside the main gate) is very limited. Hence the sooner you reach the better (if you use your own transport). The eateries (few) close to the park are Ok. Street food mainly. Hygiene and cleanliness are primarily absent. If you eat packed food ./ drinks it is fine. The park doesn't allow you to feed animals or carry food inside. The park is open on weekends. In general a good place to keep your kids occupied for a good number of hours. However avoid goind during summer even though there is lot of greenery, the heat can be fatal.

If you want to go to the zoo but don't want to travel out of the city, this is your best bet. With a wide range of animals, birds and reptiles, and a lot of children's play activities like swings, slides and the like, this attraction is truly the real deal. Since it is decently wooded, you can venture even in the day time, provided you have a hat and glasses. You can easily spend 3 hours here and joy know where the time went. A must do with young children. They'll throughly enjoy it.
