Its the cardinal feature of darjeeling...the site seeing is less important rather than the train itself. A different experience I do believe

Nothing great about the journey. Just passes through the roads that we would have travelled. Not much sight seeing.

Visiting Toy train depot was a different experience all together. Diesel engines being used in these routes most of the time now a days. During my visit to depot was able to see steam engines which are active ones and retired and taking rest :-) Those steam engines are 100-150 years old.Local technicians are doing great job by running these... Nothing great about this train. Its too expensive. 1100 bucks per person for a 2 hour and 6 km ride. Not worth at all. I would not recommend a ride.

You might feel that you are on the road however being on the road still inside a first class coach of toy train takes you to different dimension. Its not simply the world heritage now. Unfortunately the NJP-Darjeeling service has been stopped, its now few joy rides between small distances. Hoping to see it again roaring on the road.

We took the 8 AM Diesel Engine Train joy ride from the Darjeeling Station to Ghum and back on 2 Sep 15 which is supposed to be 2 hours. There is nothing great about this ride. The actual journey takes around 35 to 40 minutes as the train travels around 10 KMPH. They stop at two places, the War Memorial... More

We were a party of 4 booked by our agent so had no say in where we sat etc. we had 4 seats across the train, and they faced backwards to where we were travelling.....take the trip from Ghum then you face forward. The train is very small and so cramped for People of Euorpean build, no room for long... More

The toy train doesn't ply from the Jalpaiguri station all the way up ... but the ride from Darjeeling to the Batasia loop is worth taking. Wasn't aware of the advance booking reqt. and was lucky to get the VIP quota tickets by requesting the station master. Bit expensive but ok for the heritage ride.

Something I've read about over they years and to actually have been able to enjoy a short journey was just fab. Built to last. So grateful to have had the opportunity to do this. A must if you visit Darjeeling
