Dali Monastery was the last monastery of a number I visited in Sikkim and Darjeeling, dropping unnecessary 'baggage' at each one.The monks are beautiful and the statues in the prayer hall are magnificent. If you are in Darjeeling for just two days, this monastery, the Tibetan Refugee Centre and the Peace Pagoda and The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute are must-sees. Try a walk from Chowrasta Mall to the Peace Pagoda - one of my favourite strolls ever and in the other direction from the mall to The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. I love Darjeeling so much I am returning in 2017. The people, the food, the views and the mountains are magic.xxx love LOVE LOVE IT!

Dali wasn’t a part of our itinerary originally and since a very foggy day led to many of our visits being short, we chose to head to Dali just after visiting Ghoom monastery. I found this one to be better in terms of a a visiting experience, perhaps because it’s more vast and seems better organised
There are these huge bells that are bigger than any of the bells we saw during the trip. The temple itself is vast and there are many stories told through paintings which are quite captivating.
The monastery is located at a greater height so there is a beautiful view of Darjeeling and on a cloudy day, one could see a blanket of clouds wrapping the town of Darjeeling.

I have been to literally hundreds of monasteries in India, Nepal and Bhutan and never have I found one which closes everyday for 'lunch time'. Totally absurd. Incase you are planning to come, please note that 11.30 to 12.30 the monastery is closed. I reached at 11.35 and was told by the guard that I will have to come after 12.30. Meanwhile I saw one local group of Nepali speaking people enter after me. I asked the guard why were they allowed in, and he answered that they were there to do some puja. I noticed the group was in jeans and clicking pictures inside the monastery. Clearly they were not there for any puja. The guard made a mockery out of me and fellow tourists who were also denied entry. The whole concept of a religious building completely shutting down for lunch is ridiculous. I am fully respectful of Tibetan Buddhism and its culture but I can't understand this. Is this a branch of the SBI bank or what?! I am never going there again.

Dali Monastery is near the Darjeeling Railway station on the main road. It has a nice architecture with very ornamental doors and beautiful paintings. The atmosphere is very peaceful and serene and from the top one gets a nice view of nearby mountains. Sitting and meditating inside the monastery was a very enriching experience !!

We visited about 11h00 during the week, and there were very few other people visiting. What incredible luck, as the monks were singing, chanting, and playing instruments for the entire time we visited. Just standing outside, we could hear the music in the courtyard. And then a monk offered us to come inside---and others inside directed me to sit along the side/back area--- very welcoming. Just sitting or standing in the corner was mesmerizing--- the sounds and sights were so enchanting with easily 100+ monks of various levels/colors of robes. Beautiful murals, colors, statues, and artifacts---- and the music reverberated throughout. highly recommended, and may you be as lucky to hear the music!

Its a big monastery by the roadside. One can easily see the monastery as they enter Darjeeling. Its a very peaceful place and should be on visiting list of everybody.

We went there during evening prayer time and joined them inside. I was heavenly. The mountains, the mist and the prayers - it was divine.

Visiting this monastery was a very unique experience as we joined the puja (prayers ceremony). To watch the monks and novices and to follow al rituals was very special and unforgettable. It opened a world for me until that moment unknown and I was so glad I could experience a glimpse of their daily life. Worth a visit but try to inform you in before about the hours of the puja, that's the most impressive part of the visit to this monastery.
