Wonderful journey back in time

Absolutely a must for anyone who enjoys history. I went there several times for a project I had to do and each time I learned something different!

This was probably the best thing Decatur had to offer us. I found some interesting things about the bank listed on another website that the tour didn't address. But overall, the tour was pretty good. The guide is very passionate about the history of the building and answered questions well.

Supposedly this is the oldest bank building in Alabama. It is a very classic looking building which has been restored and maintained well. It sits right at the head of bank street (named after it) and overlooks where the civil war battle was fought.

This building has been continuously upgraded and brought back to its original form. It shows the original construction and boasts period furniture. David Breland, the historian, is a font of knowledge not only about the Old State Bank, but all of this area. I highly recommend a lengthy visit with David at the Old State Bank.

I had an opportunity to go on a tour in November of 2014. I had no idea of the history this building held. The tour was very informative. Thanks to the visitors Society in Decatur for the opportunity.

My daughter had a photo shoot there and it was an awesome experience. The scenery there is amazing. It was clean, in a great location and very private.

When you walk up to this massive building, the columns that loom over you capture your eyes quickly and if you see the impression the Civil War left on them, you wish you could hear the stories they could tell. To see and touch history is a feeling of awe. This is a great place to see history first hand.

If you're a fan of older buildings this one is a really nice tree. Imagine that this is one of the first banks that was in the area. Wish I had time to get inside for a tour.
