When we were strolling through the park in the afternoon we heard lovely Chinese music and singing. We made our way towards it to discover a talented player of a stringed instrument accompanied by a couple of women singing in harmony and accompaniment. We sat and listened to the performance that was much appreciated by the crowd which had gathered.... More

Located near People's Square, this park is a green oasis in a chaotic city. It has some concrete/asphalt paths and some gravel ones, good for running or a walk, but in the early morning before it gets full of relax seeking crowds and Tai-Chi pratictioners. It has no secular trees or intresting buildings inside, although the lake is pretty to... More

I was there only once with my family. - It was a very hot summer day and it is a great spot to cool down and escape the tumult of the city for a few moments

Large free park in the middle of People Square area. Beautiful park lots of paths, ponds, and shade. No food options we are at Yangs nearby. Little amusement area for kids which was pricy but they had a blast.

This park is north of People's Square and south of Nanjing Road and can be accessed from People's Square by taking the tunnel under Fuzhou Road and passing in front of the Shanghai Grand Theatre. It can also be accessed from the People's Square metro stop the park entrance is next to the impressive former Shanghai Race Club building which... More

In a much quieter version. East Nanjing street touches the park, it is one of the craziest street in Shanghai and this park is so quiet and feels so unpolluted that it is interesting to have them side by side. On weekends the marriage market in going on among parents. It is said that an average wedding costs $30,000 so... More

This place is just North of People's Square and features one of the most "unusual markets" I have ever seen. On weekend's parents "market" their daughters and sons to other parents in the hope of finding a "match" so they can marry. Not that the offspring are actually there in person but they are "advertised" on billboards and papers placed... More

Nice place to have a sit and watch the world go by. People practicing Tai Chi and various martial arts. Worth a stop by for a wander

Come here after the Shanghai Museum. There are plenty of street food places where you can get a takeaway lunch and relax for half an hour. Surprisingly, no scammers made an approach which made for an even more relaxing break!

The People's park in Shanghai marks the centre of the mega city. It's not too big but each weekend you can see the Shanghai Marriage Market, i.e. a place where people try to find good matches for their children and grand children. However, there are only few photos of the "candidates", thus, you should have someone speaking at least a... More

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
