This happens to be one of the top cultural shopping destinations in Shanghai. The atmosphere is quaint and the architecture traditional. Although local buyers dominate the place, tourists would find the place exotic for its cultural ambiance. The place is reputed for its wide range of stationery commodities and dozens of book stores, mostly selling Chinese language stuff. As Shanghai's... More

Our tour guide took us here as part of the scheduled itinerary. I plunked several hundred yuan into the second floor of the 'flea market' jade and junk shops because members of my family wanted Chinese memorabilia. The architecture of the place is truly unique and photo worthy, provided you can get over the commercialism of the area. In the... More

We enjoyed it very much walking around and looking and going into the shops and bargaining on items .At night with the lights very nice to see I would recommend this for people wanting to see things in Shanghai. Got hit up by a few people trying to sell a person some things but that is the norm in tourist... More

There is actually not much stuff to see here. The design of the temple shops are monotonous and repetitive. I also think that the prices here are higher than usual. So maybe just walk pass this place if you want to see it. If not you can skip it.

This street has a lot of shops selling Chinese Ciltural Products, like paintings, caligrapghy, equipments, etc. etc. The City of Books is also most famous in Shanghai at this street. Whoever interested on Chinese Books could come here. After you finished here, your next stop could be Nanjing Road.

Quite an interesting street to walk at night when it's all lit up nicely. There are many stores along the street catering mostly to the tourist market; nothing terribly authentic or original however.

Really liked having a wander about here. Plenty of food places and little souvenir shops that were very cheap once you've haggled. Well worth a visit. Very busy though.

I came here when it was raining, but still had a lot of fun. Great place to take photos of old Chinese structures, has snacks, and little damplings make with crabmeat, delicious! Also one of my favorite places to shop for souvenirs and package snack to take home. This place has it all!

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
