Imitation of Europe

Well basically Thames Town is a scaled down European city. There are lots of things to see here (good for camera shots). Most Chinese couples have their marriage photos taken here. You can rent a bike or an atv to go around the area. There is a restaurant here which offers light meal but we couldn't find others. How to... More

So black posts boxes not red! All Chinese restaurants. The buildings are good, the church is very strange and Oxford street had no shops 😩 Nice river running through and in places you got the idea of the place. It seem very unfinished which is a shame lots of empty places around there so not an all day thing we... More

If you have ever been to Disney (which I love) and had that creepy feeling when you went on the Small world ride, then you know a bit what it is like to go around Thames town in the winter/off season. It is nearly deserted and most of the shops are closed up. It was very gray and could have... More

If you're a fashion blogger, a photographer, or simply just want to get a taste of Britain come to Thames Town. I went with my mom on Dec 23rd since we were curious and just wanted to take a few photos. There were a few Chinese tourists and a number of couples having their prenuptial wedding photos taken there. Transportation:... More

It's not a secret that Chinese love different imitations of Europe and World sites. This one is not an exception. You have to go there during 1 hour from the center of the City, and then by taxi. If you are tired of the Center or of China atmosphere- you can go there and walk around this district. In fact... More

Thames Town has really come on in the last couple of years to the point now where it is a viable location as a city weekend break. There are quite a lot of amenities there and it seems like a lot of effort has been put into making the place a real working location. There are many bars and restaurants,... More

Spent afternoon wandering around this interesting collection of architecture. I think the thing is that the lushness of the vegetation is disconcerting. If you visited in winter you may get different feel. We visited with Chinese friends and getting there perspective and helping them interpret the englishness was fun. Lots of brides having photos in front of church and an... More

I hd always wanted to go to Thames Town and the weather was good so I set out on line 9 to SongJiang University Town station. The taxi rank was full and a driver leapt out 'Thames Town?' he asked. Blimey - that was easy. 5 minutes later it was as if I had been transported to another world -... More

Located about 1 hour drive from city centre. Nice cozy town. Looking for a parking lot during weekend may be a challenge. Many eateries there, and reasonably priced. Good place for some architecture photography.

This place is worth a visit with the kids on an afternoon when the city gets too much! Surreal escapism, China-style! Don't expect shops and restaurants but take a packed lunch or picnic and enjoy the architectural efforts that have gone in to making a housing estate feel like a small English market town. Complete with church (larger than we... More
