Since 2004, Mandarin House Language School has been bringing international quality standards in all aspects of operation and service delivery to China. There should be no excuse for accepting standards other than the best. Backing up this belief we are proud to be quality accredited by the International Association of Language Centres (IALC). Founded in 1983, IALC is a network of high-quality, independent language schools teaching their native language to international students. There is a stringent acceptance process and ongoing monitoring procedure that covers all aspects of our operations, venue management, curriculum and the quality of our teachers/staff amongst other things.

They are warm and caring, they are curious to understand my country and life. It's wonderful to stay with them, to enjoy meals and great conversation.

I signed up the mandarin class at Mandarin House since August. I had a great time here with the teachers and students here. the school located near people's square and it is very convenient. The staff helped me to find a great home stay family and I had my own room with bathroom. It only takes 2 stops of the... More

I signed up for Mandarin lessons here after hearing them from my friends - and it's been a good experience. There are 2 90m lessons every week, which introduces new concepts and, most importantly for me, gives me an opportunity to practise conversation, with a teacher on hand to provide immediate feedback as I struggle to form sentences on my... The accommodation is suitable for everyone staying 1 week up to 3 months. It's only 3 minutes walk to the school, comfortable rooms and clean. Right off the Nanjing Pedestrian Road, near the People's Square, the Bund, the Yu Garden. Everything is within your reach. I especially appreciate the attention to details by the staff. Overall, would recommend and is... More

I studied with Mandarin House for three weeks during my new year holiday. The school and staff are very competent and friendly. The teachers are very professional and helpful. They all speak pretty good English which makes understanding Mandarin easier for English speakers. The textbooks are very handy for beginners like myself, it contains many useful vocabulary and sentences. I... More

Structured class and excellent teacher! I took a group class and had a great teacher and I finally felt like I made a big improvement. I studied with a tutor and another school before Mandarin House but couldn't find the right fit and the right language level. I have friends that have been at Mandarin House for a while and... More

I studied with Mandarin House for three weeks in March. The school and teachers are very competent and friendly. They speak pretty good English which makes understanding Mandarin easier for English speakers. The books they use can be bought a any bookstore for far less. You get so little for what you pay. It's not worth it. The accommodation however... More

I was at Mandarin house for a month and I have to say I had no issues with the school itself. My teachers were very nice and the school is modern and clean. Their book is not very good, and the characters book is a copy from a book that you can find for half the price at any bookstore…... More

I studied Mandarin at Mandarin House in Shanghai for three weeks in March. The school itself is good, the teachers are very nice and speaks pretty good English. The accommodation on the other hand was terrible. Prior to arriving in China a sales person from the school (Rachel) called and pretty much sold me on the school. They assured me... More

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
